SEX at Work--quickie thread
Hey, Bocadem got me to thinking, I know a lot of you are twenty-somethings, and the environment for casual sex has pretty much disappeared. But that period of time in my life was when I had most of my work related liasons. Yeah, some were quickies in the supply closet. Some were full blown affairs. Some were with clients. You get the idea. Now, I'm "all growed up" and the CFO of a mid-sized banking outfit spread over three states. I think of myself as pretty attuned to my surroundings; it's this ability that preserves our capital and allows us to quickly profit ( there's that "quickie" reference again) by sensing the time to strike then get out of markets.

But what I'm getting at is this: I don't sense that the younger employyees are involved in any extra curricular activity any more. My contempoaries at other companies note the same thing; a marked decrease in the mating dance on company time. What's going on at YOUR workplace? Are our observations the norm? No one is fooling around anymore? If so, no wonder there is so much stress these days:)

4. There's a saying that goes...
...don't fuck where you eat. I'd never jeopardize my job with an in-office fling. I mean, hell, I live less than 5 minutes away; I can go off-site for that!

8. Why You Don't See It
Hello? You're the boss, Boss! Nobody's going to risk lingering glances or furtive hand-holding in your presence. It's going on, but not in front of you. Trust me on this: fucking is still popular.

10. Time, that's the stuff that's wasted if you are not making money
I think most of them search paid personal services during lunch time to maximise their productive output like every good American citizen should.

After all, the corporations do so much for us. They give back to the community, they let us live on their land, they let us eat their food, and all we have to do is work earnestly for them.

If it wasn't for corporations, we wouldn't have our freedoms. We'd be nothing more than feudal peasants...

13. It seems to me
(and I am 35 years old)

That it is a No-no to have relationships where you work.
(don't play where you get paid)

Not that it doesn't happen. I just think that the culture has changed somewhat.

IMHO

15. cultural change
I don't know your age, but the culture has changed in the past twenty years. Businesses are more strongly pushing non-fraternization policies, in part, at least to avoid sexual harassment lawsuits. No tolerance policies also exist; so sexual adventurism has a much higher potential cost than it used to.

So, smart people know to completely avoid that whole minefiled; rick-takers are more discreet.

Plus, there is the fact that you're the boss, as was pointed out by another poster.

i must vote with the ones, who separate business with pleasure. seen too much bad from that, and it makes co-workers uneasy and can ruin your career (unemployment at 9 year high)

17. One can also make the claim that fear of harassment suits
are part of it.

I think there was a serious period of fear of harassment, which changed the work environments to the point that now it isn't so much fear of harassment, just habit, not to date or grab quickies at work, or even ask. Companies I have worked with have all been okay with people dating at work, but also have been quite clear that it is not appropriate to ask every man/woman you come across, and also not appropariate across heirarchical lines (e.g., boss and minion, or SVP and Associate), and that if it DOES happen across the heirarchy and become serious, one of the people has to leave the firm. I've seen that happen, too - and it makes perfect sense to get rid of any possible nepotism.

So I think for a lot of people, the idea of finding quick sex at the workplace is not an option they even think about due to the many possible dangers, potential job loss, possible harassment suit, and/or just making the workplace a damn uncomfortable place to be.

18. Haven't even heard a hint or rumor of workplace sex....
in about 15 years! It's such taboo that I've seen several people refuse to get to know other people they meet through work. By that I mean people that don't work with them, but people they meet as part of their work. It's getting ridiculous.

32. Never get your "Meat" and your "Bread" at the same place....
Workplace romances are just not done anymore, at least not by smart people.
Face it, when thing eventually cool-off and come to a teary-eyed end (as they ALL do) you've still got to try and deal with this person professionally??? Good Luck.

If they're inferior to you, the old tradition of shit-canning them to get them out of the way will only lead to lawsuits and MUCH unwelcome publicity. If they're superior to you, your life at that firm as you knew it is OVER....

Personal experience is that 15 floors and a completely different department is enough of a buffer to boff'er, but NEVER in your own office.

I let what might have been a beautiful thing with a truly beautiful person get away from me for exactly that reason...
