Killing Joke fans...thoughts on the new album?
I think the material is great, but it sounds terrible.

2. My boyfriend got one of their albums this past year
Neither of us liked it. It's not a surprise for me to hate something, but my boyfriend is a musician and usually finds something good about a band's music. Not in this case. I'm curious: what do you like about them?

4. That's a good question...
...and I'm having trouble answering it this morning. :) My favorite album of theirs is "Extremities, Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions". I think it's the combination of Jaz Coleman's unique vocal stylings, the songwriting, and the general atmosphere of the arrangements. Probably the closest thing they've made to a "metal" album, but with a certain amount of Middle Eastern influence in the writing.

3. The Killing Joke was another great graphic novel by Alan Moore of V for Vendetta and...
Watchmen fame.

It really portrayed the Batman and the Joker as the psychopaths they are.

5. they got a new album? hmm... is there a vid of it up yet?
i dig their pandemonium album, but that's been years ago. wonder what they've been doing lately. apparently using a poor quality sound studio, if what you say is true.

6. zOMG, you're not kidding! that studio filtering is atrocious!
here's a site i found that has links to youtube's of the album songs (to get a feel for them). also an interesting review:

http://www.theotherblog.com/Articles/2010/09/22/killing-joke-absolute-dissent/

however, i agree, what studio they used took some interesting songs and made them... yucky. like drowning under a pillow soaked in castor oil. leaves a bad "taste" in my ear... but the music is interesting enough for me to attend one of their concerts if they ever show up around here. i hope the USA release in Nov sounds better than this. i like live and raw, but on CDs i want studio polish. sure, vinyl, acetate, whatever, collect the nuances like a Joy Division connoisseur, but i at least want one album slicked up and down with a shellacked shell of glossy, porcelain-like polish -- y'know, for posterity!
