I'm in Amarillo, Texas, home of the free 72 ounce steak*
*You have to eat it within one hour for it to be free.

I had a 16 ounce steak for dinner tonight and felt like I needed a wheel chair to get back to the truck. Once I got myself wobbled out here I rolled into the bunk and slept for 4 hours.

I had a much better day today than I had yesterday and I thank all of you who posted in my "bad day" thread last night.

I hadn't visited the dating site I used to go to for a long time before last night. I got an e-mail saying that someone had left me a message at the site and it turned out to be from a woman about my age who lives near my home. I exchanged messages with her and then caught her online at the site tonight and we had a very nice conversation. She sounds like a good person.

1. Beef...it's what's for colon blockage.
Remember the advice of B. Kliban, "Never eat anything bigger than your head."

I've got a pretty big head. But you won't find me trying to down a 72 ounce steak. :)

4. It seems like you've got a cartoon or a picture for every occasion.
I know you create a lot of those yourself. Do you actually draw any of the cartoons?

5. One of my ever-to-be-unfulfilled dreams...

when I draw a fairly recognizable stick figure.

I sometimes caption and edit and/or combine pictures/cartoons --
but I'm pretty strictly a cover band.

6. My dear Tobin!
You're in Texas?

I suspect that 72 ounce steak would last me and my husband for several meals!

When do you think you'll get to LA?

:hi:

7. I'll probably be in LA Saturday morning or early afternoon
barring anything going wrong and I doubt it will. I have to make my first delivery late Sunday night, so I will have some down time there. I'm hoping that I will get to meet you and your husband.

9. Yes, and I will definitely give you a call when I get into town
The only iffy factor will be getting a rental car. We'll see how it goes.

12. It looks like I'm sitting about 15 miles east of it
But I won't get to visit. That's the bad thing about driving big ass truck around. Even though I get to run around the country, I don't really get to stray too much off of the beaten path because due to the size of my vehicle.

14. I understand what you mean. If I drove a truck like you, I'd have to get something like this.
For little side trips. Maybe you could find room in the cab for one of these folding bicycles.

I'm partial to the Paratrooper model.

Drive safe!

13. Haha
I used to work there a million years ago. I don't suppose they still allow the truckers to buy the garters off the waitresses' thighs anymore - ah, the 70's.

I wouldn't waste my time on the 72 ounce thing. You're too busy shoveling it in to enjoy it. Just order a nice cut because those folks know how to cook a steak. If you want to try something new, order a Buffalo burger. Buffalo's got a nice flavor and better texture when it's ground up.

Incidentally, the China Star restaurant on I-40 has a pretty decent big-ass buffet.

21. LOL on my current diet
I'm allowed 3 1/2 ounces of protein (fat removed) twice a day. zOMG 72 ounces of cow would last me a month!

Best of luck with your new "contact"! :hi:

23. The Big Texan... we used to eat there all the time.
Way back before the Interstate was built, Route 66 went right past the parking lot. We stopped there on our way from L.A. to OKC every summer.

Good luck with the dating thing.

The Big Texan puts it up on a webcam. Here's a link to the website. Click on Cam #1 right in the middle of the page...

26. I wonder...
How much would they charge you to bring out two of those 72-ounce steaks, a couple dozen baked potatoes and a big-ass bowl of salad? You could feed a whole Little League team with that.
