Today's College Football and Tailgate Thread
We have another great day of football lined up today, with four games between ranked teams and a few other interesting games as well.

#6 LSU at #4 Auburn
#13 Wisconsin at #15 Iowa
#16 Nebraska at #14 Oklahoma State
#1 Oklahoma at #11 Missouri

Also, a tip of the hat to Oregon, who this week reached the top spot in the AP poll for the first time ever and then beat UCLA handily on Thursday night.

So who is your team playing today? What games are you looking forward to?

7. Iowa State 7 -- Texas 3
It's the second quarter, and Iowa State just held Texas to a field goal after Texas had 1st and goal inside the 5. Texas actually went for it on 4th and goal from inside the 1 (and would have made it), but there was a false start penalty on the play, so they wound up kicking the field goal.

Iowa State is ahead, and right now Texas is backed up at their own two-yard line, but it feels like Texas is about to get in gear.

12. ISU 14 -- Texas 3 at halftime
Texas has been inside the red zone three times and only scored a field goal. They threw one interception in the end zone and missed another field goal right before halftime.

Iowa State is really playing well, and also pulling out all the stops. They had a surprise onside kick after their second touchdown that caught Texas completely off guard. Couldn't capitalize on it, though.

for the Missouri/Oklahoma game. Checking bags as usual. Didn't get to go to the Gameday broadcast because I had to work the game and getting up very early to get a good spot would have left me far too tired for the game.

I hate that it's another night game, though. Oh well. Here's hoping for a Tiger victory.

Even though the Ducks have had good years and have been consistently good for the last decade, I always think it's cool to see a team that's never been number one get the spot. And Oregon looks good this year, no doubt about it. Maybe we'll see an OU-UO matchup in the BCS Championship Game.

Of course, as a Sooner fan I don't hate the BCS right now quite as much as you do :)

Pretty good 1st half for both teams. Oklahoma moved the ball very well, but had two costly turnovers in the red zone. Missouri moved the ball pretty well, but OU's defense came through in key situations.

I didn't find out until the next day and was stunned.

The number 1 team must come from the SEC or the Big 12. The only exceptions are Ohio State and USC, and USC is on probation, while Ohio State has had a loss. Therefore . . .

when they were undefeated back in 2004.

Dude, Oregon has a great chance of being the #1 in the BCS this week, and even if they are #2 they should pretty much control their own destiny from here on out. Seems to me like that should be a pretty enjoyable ride for an Oregon fan.

Edited on Sat Oct-23-10 11:01 PM by fishwax
In 2001, the Ducks had a legitimate beef. In '03, USC had a pseudo-legitmiate complaint, but (a) they still won the AP title, (b) you seem to have excluded USC from the list of teams you see the BCS as biased against, and (c) they had Reggie Bush, and even though we only have evidence that he was paid in his sophomore year, that still taints things a bit.

On the other hand, in '04 USC cheated while Auburn (an SEC team) got screwed out of a championship game bid.
