What are you 3 favorite movies?
Mine:

#1 - Mulan: Excellent empowering women story.

#2 - How To Train Your Dragon: This movie shot up the charts when I first watched it. Excellent animation and a wonderful story. The ending proves that not all happy endings come without a price.

#3 - Rocky Horror Picture Show: I mean, c'mon, Mom, Dad, it's ROCKY!

3. My picks right now are:
1. "Dr. Strangelove" (Kubrick's best IMO, although he didn't think so)

2. "Rashomon" (with n-1 unreliable narrators)

3. "L. A. Confidential" (On another day I might prefer "Chinatown")

27. Here's mine:
1. The Big Lebowski - the all time greatest LA stoner movie ever made. The Dude is the perfect persoification of the So Cal slacker and the completely oddball cast of characters that surround him make the whole thing worth watching.

2. Collateral - Probably the exact opposite of The Dude is Tom Cruise's charcter in this flick - who's a calculating, cold-hearted trash talking assassin who's out to off all the witnesses in a huge federal trial. Has some great shots of my city in it.

3. Office Space -Yeah I'm gonna have to ask you to come in on Saturday. Sunday too. We lost some people over the weekend and need to play catch up. So if you could get here around 9:00, that would be greaaaaaaaat.

Honorable mentions:

Clerks
Super Troopers
Bad Santa
District 9

The first two that come to mind is LadyHawke and Rob Roy (what's not to love about Liam Neeson in a kilt?)

And I guess the third would have to be Zeigfeld Girl starring Hedy Lamar, but that was mostly because I wanted to be that glamorous when I grew up.

The third really is probably The Enchanted Cottage.

31. Mulan is absolutely my favorite Disney film. Brilliant, subtle moments
mixed in with Eddie Murphy wisecracks. :)

The scene where the soldiers are mourning the deaths of the General and the army, and Mulan finds a child's doll and stands it against the fallen general's sword, was beautiful. And the songs were inspired. "Be A Man" playing when the soldiers dressed in drag, for instance, or the whole discomfort of Mulan while the men were singing "A Girl Worth Fighting For."

My three favorites (for now):

The Princess Bride. Still. I can watch that ten times in a row, and Peter Faulk's last "As you wish" will make me cry every time. Probably helps that he reminds me of my dad.

Amadeus. The most perfect movie ever made, until the Director's Cut screwed it up. The plot, the story, the dialogue, the editing, the acting, everything was perfect in that movie. The "voice of God" scene where Salieri is reading/hearing Mozart's first draft is one of my favorites in any movie.

Unforgiven. Clint Eastwood meant it as a step towards de-glorifying violence. Perfect movie about killing, and how a story always looks different from the other side.

And Dr. Seuss hated the movie adaptation so much he refused to let any other of his stories be made into movies for the rest of his life. He made one exception, and that was for the Chuck Jones TV adaptation for How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

...and I'm very surprised that it didn't become an iconic MUST-SEE during the 60's and

69. The Keeper:The Legend of Omar Khayyam (2005)
My all time number one favorite.

2. Christmas Vacation (DH lets out the Inner Clark Griswold and loves lights)

3. The Meaning of Life (The Galaxy Song and Every Sperm is Sacred are just TOO GOOD).

4. Office Space

5. Borat (for jaw dropping non political correctness)

6. Titanic

7. Howard's End (deep enough that I had to watch it twice to catch a lot of things)

8. Twelve Angry Men (I worked in the legal profession all my working life--shows the discussion process in a jury room quite well).

9. Reds (communism and socialism in the US in the early 20th century)

10. Roger and Me

script by Marguerite Duras. She was a great writer and a very interesting woman.
