Spoiler posting etiquette??
As I was watching last weeks series premiere of The Walking Dead, and knowing how there are numerous tv show discussions here and on other websites I had a thought.

What, if any, is the appropriate timeline/etiquette for actually revealing various show information on blogs, discussion boards etc?
Or is there even such a thing?

We tend to watch most of our shows we like about 4-5 days later they've aired because I work an overnight shift.
My wife watches live tv during the week, then we watch "our" shows on the weekend.
When I come here, or other discussion boards I tend to not click on tv series threads, just in case.

1. I give it 33 minutes. Then it's fair game.

2. I think people try to put **spoiler** in subject line
If it is current. Here in the Lounge, if someone doesn't put "spoiler" up there someone else usually calls them on it.

I am in the same boat where I watch many shows a few days after they air, so I'm careful not to ruin it.

:hi:

3. No Spoilers until I've watched the fucking show in question
Shoot me a PM if you're not sure.

4. I usually post something like (SPOILER ALERT)
I've written a lot of reviews on Amazon. My personal belief is that when you write about something with a rabid mainstream and/or cult following, like The Sopranos, the people most likely to read the reviews are those fans, who are reading to see if they agree with you or not.

Writing "Tony munches onion rings while Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" plays and the scene cuts abruptly to black" isn't really a spoiler in the literal sense if 99% of the people reading have already watched the scene. Even so, I always post "SPOILER ALERT" anyway.

Oh, and by the way, apologies to anyone here who didn't know how The Sopranos ended...but look at my subject line!

5. When in doubt, give a shout. It doesn't cost any extra to put "Spoiler" in the subject,
so I'd probably do it for episodes from the current season of a show or movies currently in the theaters. Exceptions would be where the spoiler has already been widely disseminated (as in newspaper headline widely). Also, live sporting events are spoiler-immune as soon as they complete, except where it's well-known that they are being tape-delayed in particular regions (e.g. Olympics), as wrong as that practice is...

6. How about don't click on a link about a show you don't want "Spoiled"
That's pretty easy.

7. If you don't want to be spoiled, then don't click on the threads.
Simple. As. That.
