Proposal for a new DU Group: Netflix Streaming Videos & DVDs.
Proposed mission statement (open for discussion and/or change): discussion of Netflix streaming videos and dvds, suggestions for videos to view, discussion of any problems related to Netflix streaming videos or dvds, and discussion of devices (such as the Roku set-top box) used to view Netflix streaming videos.

At least 10 DU members with donor stars must respond in this thread and agree to be active participants in the new group. Members must agree upon a mission statement in this thread and then an Administrator will be contacted to consider the request for this new group.

I regularly read posts here about Netflix streaming videos asking about video suggestions or giving them. I thought I'd propose a group to see if there is enough interest to sustain a group specifically about Netflix and particularly the streaming video. I've found Netflix streaming video along with getting the physical dvds to be about the best bang for an entertainment dollar that I have ever gotten and I think that others would agree. So let's see what happens.

15. I just finished watching a streaming movie called "The Crazies".
It listed as Horror/Zombies, but it was kind of interesting.

"When a plane crashes in a small town, a secret biological weapon is released. As the toxic substance infiltrates the local water system, some residents become gravely ill, while others descend into homicidal madness."

16. We've got our 10 members, now to settle on a mission statement.
My suggestion:

Proposed mission statement (open for discussion and/or change): discussion of Netflix streaming videos and dvds, suggestions for videos to view, discussion of any problems related to Netflix streaming videos or dvds, and discussion of devices (such as the Roku set-top box) used to view Netflix streaming videos.

Something more simple, or something added. This is likely to be mostly about the streaming video, but I didn't want to exclude the dvds because sometimes there is something special going on there as well.

Suggestions about the mission statement are encouraged.

20. I'm going to get the dvd for the streaming Harry Nilsson video I recommended
for all the extras on it. Sometimes you can get all the episodes in a series except for a couple only available on dvd. I watched 6 seasons of "Have Gun, Will Travel" and only the Christmas episode from the first year was missing and only available on dvd. So the dvd part of Netflix is an important aspect of it all as well.

29. It took me awhile too, but I watched one episode after another.
I couldn't really remember too many episodes in particular even though as a kid our local tv station was a CBS affiliate.

I do remember getting for Christmas the Paladin gun and holster as well as the "Have Gun, Will Travel" cards. They would probably be worth some money today if I still had them in decent condition, but my toys were to play with just like my old records were to actually play and my comics were to read and not to put away in plastic bags.

34. I don't remember any of the shows either, the show was more adult.
All I could remember was the opening of the show with the gun play.

I might have received one the show's guns.

I remember getting a really nice gun and holster for Christmas.

There was something like 39 shows per season.

Good show.

28. How about this as the group: Online Video Streaming.
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 11:28 PM by elocs
Mission Statement: A group for the discussion of online video streaming from such sources as Netflix, Hulu, Fancast and others. In conjunction this discussion would include dvds from Netflix as well as devices used to stream video such as the Roku set-top boxes or BluRay players and others. Spoiler warnings required for too much information given about a particular video in a post.

As a group title this would be more inclusive than just Netflix along with the mission statement. Or would I technically have to keep the original title since that was the one approved? If that were the case the original group title could be kept with the mission statement expanding upon it.

And, if you haven't seen it – Lovely Bones. Great movie.

37. Not a streaming video, but a good example of a Netflix dvd recommendation.
I think I might have seen this movie because it was directed by Peter Jackson. I have the Netflix one disc out at a time/Blu-Ray so I can check out if a disc is a Blu-Ray that I might want to buy.

The Lovely Bones

Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz star in Peter Jackson's adaptation of Alice Sebold's riveting, best-selling novel; Susan Sarandon and Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci co-star.

Cast:
Saoirse Ronan, Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon, Michael Imperioli, Amanda Michalka, Thomas McCarthy, Nikki SooHoo, Reece Ritchie

Though I don't view much via streaming. Sometimes, I'll watch the first 5 minutes to see if I want the DVD sent home. The one time I tried watching an entire film on my iMac, the Comcast monopoly had one of its regular dial-up impersonations and lost the connection (bastards).

and it looks great. I have basic broadband cable with Charter and have never had a movie interrupted. I also use the Roku box when I want to rent a recent streaming video from Amazon and the high def ones do look very good.

In conjunction this discussion would include dvds from Netflix as well as devices used to stream video such as the Roku set-top boxes or BluRay players and others. 49. The streaming video really sealed the deal for me.
Sometimes I kind of struggle to find a disc that I want to get in the mail and I have a good turnaround time. I have one disc out at a time and returned one today and if there were mail tomorrow I would get an email they had received it and then another that they had sent out the next one in my queue which I would get Friday.

58. I made the suggestion for this new group this morning & it's now in the hands of the Administrators.
I checked out the Arts and Entertainment section of the DU groups and I have to think that this new group about online video streaming should do very well as far as the number of posts and activity compared to the ones already there. I think the DUers here who have expressed their interest and support of the group are very enthusiastic and I'm sure it will be a great group, helpful to all.
