Has anyone ever had the DC Jack on their laptop repaired?
Who repaired it? Did they need to have the hard drive in it?

1. Yes.
I took it to a local shop and were able to fix it. The kids are hard on the laptops, and constantly bump the plug, or jerk on the cord from the power supply. The laptop (Sony Vaio) was fully intact when we had it repaired.

2. Take the hard drive out if you're worried.
It will power up without the drive. I've sent a couple off to have it done.

5. Can't remember the name, some outfit in Florida
found them on ebay. Was $135 including return shipping and a six month warranty. The person's whose computer it was still has it without any problems for about 2 years now. I just didn't want to completely disassemble it to fix it. My labor charge would have been higher than that.

4. ALWAYS remove the hard drive unless it is an OS repair or requires a new driver.
Ask first for such repairs. As for the DC jack, no they don't need it. I've done two of them myself, but both of the laptops were over 20 years old. I've got a 3rd waiting for the repair (I've got the replacement part). It has only been on the shelf for about three years now. Someone gave it to me - no rush.
