I have no doubt everything spoken about in that book is true

And I have worries that we'll slide back into that kind of "white makes right" justice again, if we haven't already...

1. You know what's worse?
Some of the soldiers there got Medals of Honor for their actions...

3. No can do..
That book was very painful for me to read. It's been nearly 40 years since I put that book down, and I still can't watch or read historical accounts of "manifest destiny".

5. That was such a sad book.
I read it many years ago, and it broke my heart.

9. I come from a family whose business has been to mythologize the "West."
At dinner this evening this very subject came up. If you call yourself an "American" then you must face the genocidal history of this country. Our fantasies about the American West rest upon cultural annihilation and the graves of countless victims.

I work with a woman who is the great great great granddaughter of Chivington, of the Sand Creek massacre. She makes no excuses and understands perfectly what kind of man he was.

Check out "Blood and Thunder"....it's about Kit Carson and the Navajo.

12.  The Song of Crazy Horse by JD Blackfoot
No video, just the song. It was a full album side and 19 minutes long.

14. You should visit Wounded Knee
...and, if you've a mind to, take a few minutes and see the swell conditions on the Pine Ridge rez.

...and then, go look at Whiteclay, across the border in Nebraska. You see, the Pine Ridge rez, in South Dakota, is dry. So, enterprising folks have set up stores that sell beer just over the border in Nebraska. So, Whiteclay kind of looks like Skid Row in Hell...you wonder how this is possible in America.

of course, I've seen Belle Glade, Florida - so not much shocks me in America any more.
