i've never gone out at the break of dawn to shop after thanksgiving
but my daughter likes to do that with her girlfriend.
so when we saw a commercial that said a store was opening at 3 am i told her "hell, i could go then. i'm still up."

so...
i'm going--soon
not exactly in a mad rush to buy anything.
i'm more curious to have a look at what goes on/what the big deal is/and who these people are that are so interested in knocking themselves out to go shopping so early. i doubt they're night owls like me.

i wonder... will the store be crowded? will there be a line to get in? is this like when i used to stand in line for tickets to see black sabbath?

1. my daughter
waited two hours to get into Toys R Us, which opened at 10 pm last night. There were over a thousand people in line.

We needed two tricycles, one for my grandson and one for an angel tree card we picked. By the time my daughter got to that section, there was only one left, but it was a girls and we needed boys. She found a better one this morning at Target for just thirteen more dollars each.

She did get most of her Christmas shopping done last night, though. We are really only buying for the kids this year to try and keep thigs stress free and lighter on the wallet.

She did the shopping while I stayed at home with the grandbaby. I think I got the better end of the deal.

2. Personally, I detest crowds.
So I don't like to go see the hot movie.
I don't like to attend rallies and street festivals.
I don't like to visit bars on St Patrick's Day or drink on New Year's Eve.
And I don't want to shop on Black Friday.

1/4 of all Americans who plan to spend at least $500 this Christmas (doesn't include me!) are planning to spend it on Black Friday. It's going away the biggest retail day of the year. One of the grocery stores I frequent shares a parking lot with a Wal-Mart; I will not even visit that grocery store today.

At least Black Sabbath fans weren't pushy or "behind schedule". This will be far worse.

3. I did once many, many years back
The store opened at 5 and since we live in the country I had to get up at 4 to make it in time.
I was there for cheap bread machines ( I told you it was long ago). Everyone else was there for Furbys. Even saw a small verbal fight break out. Great Christmas spirit.

4. My wife thrives on it
I think she likes it more than Christmas itself, she's a real shopping cart warrior lol. I've done it exactlly one time myself. Last year I scored an epiphone Les Paul jr for $89 at Guitar Center's black Friday sale. This year, I'm staying home :silly:

5. I've never did the black friday thing
and never plan to do it. I'll do my shopping on line without the hassle of the rude greedy people that takes over the stores.

7. I'm with you. Why fight crowds at the crack of dawn (or earlier) when I can
sit home on my butt, click on what I want and tell them "yes, send that to me".

8. we used to go at 10 am back before all the early morning craziness became
common. We'd walk around different stores or malls, have a nice lunch, buy a few things and then go home. Once the "get there at 5 am" sales started, my father used to go, just cuz he's the mad shopper.

I saw an ad last night for a store opening at 3 am today - just seems insane to me. I'd rather relax after making Tx. dinner, have a nice sleep, get up at 10 am and eat some pie than scramble for alleged bargains!

but that's just me.

9. Years ago I worked one for menards (similar to lowes) I will NEVER shop one. I had to
be there at 4:00 am, managers had to push people away just so I could get in the door. People tried to push their way in with me. Then it was like a feeding frenzy. NEVER AGAIN will I subject myself to that.:eyes:

10. So how did it go?
I was thinking of doing the same thing for the same reason, but the turkey tryptophan must have gotten to me so I wasn't able to stay up as late as I usually can. I was going to go to Target, just to see what it was like. I've never done the Black Friday thing.

How'd it go?
