Win again.

19. On retail sales? Zero.
We were doing a bit of driving around and were hungry, so we found a restaurant and had lunch. Total for three people, including tip, $46.00, and the food was very good too - we found a new, out-of-the-way place for a good lunch.

23. I went to the mall on Black Friday a bought a pair of boots for $9.99
They are nice and warm and I needed them. Sister bought a coat at 1/2 price. She didn't have one.

We do the BF shopping every year and find stuff we can use at good prices. We have never found the crowds as horrific or rude as portrayed by the media. We don't wait for the doors to open so maybe we miss the worst part of it, but we try to be there pretty early, eat, shop around, talk and people watch.

It's pretty sad to read post after post about how those of us who shop on BF are nothing but mindless greedy imbeciles who support evilness by shopping; but until I learn how to make homemade boots and other such things I will still be part of that crowd so despised around here. I am poor and will try to find a bargain whenever I can. I ha no idea I deserved scorn for it.

25. The BF outrage does seem to hit a lot of unintended (I hope) targets
I agree with a lot of people in hating the incessant advertising, the message that if I don't buy my wife a diamond something-or-other and she doesn't buy me a Lexus that we're losers, and the incessant message that buying is fun, patriotic, and a social responsibility. But letting that outrage spill over onto people who bought things that they need at good prices is silly - if I'd needed something in particular last Friday I would have bought it, but I had other things to do.

I suppose there's a case to be made that avoiding shopping on BF sends a message to advertisers that we reject their consumption-is-good message, but we don't all have the luxury (in time, money, etc) to make that statement - and there's no shame in that...

35. There's this story about a fox trying to reach some grapes over his head...
describes a lot of the diatribes.

I love the crowds when I can afford to shop. I've gotten up early once to stand in line and wait for an opening. Stood around in the cold with a bunch of good people who talked about the cold, sports, and life in general, and one of them gave me a chemical hand warmer when he saw me rubbing my hands together.

People are usually as nice as you let them be, I've found. And who can resist great prices at electronics stores. Viva la economie!!

26. nothing
I'm too exhausted from cooking (and eating) to go shopping the day after a big food holiday.

I did switch which credit card would be used for when my consumer reports subscription renews the day after x-mas, though. How is that?

And that tells me whatever year I got that I must have been starting to look up something to buy the day after x-mas and wanted to get the scoop on it from CR so I must have been sort of "shopping" the day after a food holiday - so much for my credibility, eh?:P

32. about $200
a book (the new Mark Twain autobiography), a cd (best of Wanda Jackson), 4 long sleeved shirts (for the husband, works in a cold warehouse, needs them), and the big item, a $70 camera (for the daughter, regular price $160). Money is extremely tight this year, and that is about 75% of all the Christmas shopping i will do.

I would have bought a whole boatload of stuff if I'd have had the money, of course. Instead, I went to see my parents, who took me and the grandkids to the Creole Creamery in New Orleans. Then to a pizza place.

In a related story, a man -- and his 12 y/o son -- were arrested at the Target (right down the street) for beating up an elderly (didn't catch his age if they gave it, but he looked to be 70'ish) man in a dispute over a parking space.
