4. Yeah I'm a member of the Kenseth fan club
I'm looking forward to next year and the new FR9 engine. Carl Edwards is good too. I'm not a fan of Gordon or Hendrick Motorsports but I believe in giving credit here for the good they are doing on the issue of hunger.

8. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has also said some very positive things
http://www.scenedaily.com/news/articles/sprintcupseries/Hendrick_Motorsports_.html
>>“I’m as excited as everybody else is,” Earnhardt Jr. said during Wednesday’s stop at Hendrick Motorsports on the Sprint Media Tour hosted by Lowe’s Motor Speedway. “I wish I had been able to go to the inauguration. That would have been nice to have been able to have been there, but it was pretty busy it looked like.”

NASCAR’s most popular driver hasn’t met Obama but would apparently jump on the opportunity to do so.

“I’d love to meet our new president. That would be a great honor of mine,” he said. “I was as excited as everybody else. I feel like that we all understand that is in a difficult situation. Even with the bailouts and all that stuff, it hasn’t totally fixed everything. … We’ve still got a long ways to go.

“We’ve still got a lot of different areas to get uglier, so hopefully we all will survive the worst of it.”<<

Wake me up when at least half of the schedule is held at road courses.

/Thinks it would be funny to see NASCAR drivers trying to race on the Nürburgring Nordschlife, or even Road America.

Carl Edwards won the Nationwide race in 2010.

15. Funny?
NASCAR regulars usually spank "ringers" - specialist drivers brought in for road courses. Rusty Wallace's footwork videos from the Glen could be used in driving schools.
Old-time stock cars did'nt roadrace well - but better brakes and transmissions have pretty well fixed that. A lot of stock car drivers are "naturals" - I've seen a hillbilly who could'nt spell "apex" drive flawless lines in his Sat. nite Camaro at the old Bryar.

16. There's a reason the NASCAR regulars spank ringers
The ringers almost always drive for teams with no money.

A few years ago I did a "Get Ron Fellows a Richard Childress Engine" thing on the internets...

17. This means Drive to End Hunger paid to be there.
Typical redneck/rethuglican attitude to take money from whoever is willing to offer it.

Doesn't mean that Gordon approves of what the group does, supports it, or even gives a shit who they are.

Anyone who flashes money at a race car driver gets a sticker.

18. You may wish to re-think that
In light of the many trips to Haiti by Hendrick Racing airplanes after the earthquake, or the $$$$ raised for charities by Jeff Gordon's foundation.

This is actually good business sense for both AARP and Hendrick/Gordon - Racing fans are quite loyal to sponsors, and community charity involvement is good PR for business - like Hendrick's string of car dealerships.

Speaking of dealerships, this could be a way for AARP to get their foot in the door, selling their car financing and insurance through dealerships and vice versa.

19. I've always liked Jeff Gordon
the fact that he's from Northern California, I believe, and owns a vineyard kind of cracks me up when compared to the stereotype.

I don't like NASCAR, but I don't like it in the same way I don't like soccer. I respect it, I just don't enjoy watching it.

20. I still think that, for southern state Democratic parties, NASCAR sponsorship is a good idea
Make some angry donkey logo with flames and slap it on the hood of a car.
