7. A scenic day. Now, a few dumb questions ...
Great view from your apartment. Are there people walking or skating on the pond?

What is sold in the yellow and red vending box on the fence?

Do bicycles have license plates in Frankfurt?

Did someone steal bricks from Goethe's wall, or is it supposed to look that way?

What are the pastel-colored eel-looing things for sale?

Nice to have the rest of the week off. Enjoy. Take more pictures.

:hi:

8. Good morning JustABozo
:hi:

Are there people walking or skating on the pond? - It is not a pond but an open field and people are walking their dogs there or just take a walk themselves

What is sold in the yellow and red vending box on the fence? - You can buy candy from the vending box

Do bicycles have license plates in Frankfurt? - No, bicycles don't have license plates. The bike you see belongs to the German railway company and you can rent the bike.

Did someone steal bricks from Goethe's wall, or is it supposed to look that way? - It is supposed to be that way. The brick wall is an art installation regarding a (already passed) exhibition about the novel "Wilhelm Meister" by Goethe. Don't ask me what it is supposed to mean. Each brick has a WM "printed" in.

What are the pastel-colored eel-looing things for sale? - that is candy.

9. Guten Morgen, Fraulein Honigkirche!!
.
.
.
.
.
BEAUTIFUL pictures!!! :applause:
.
.
.
They make me miss Germany... ... ... and Winter.
.
.
.
I just mentioned Christkindlesmarkt (the one in Nurnberg) yesterday -- and its delicious,
warming Gluhwein.
.
A market in the shadow of a church/cathedral much like its predecessors all across Europe
dating back to medieval times (though first written mention of Nurnberg's is 1628).
.
.
.
I'd also like to know what the brightly-colored "ropes" are. My first thought was smoked eels,
then pasta and, on closer look, maybe candy?
.
.
.
Definitely more pictures, please. These were beautiful.

23. I had to look up Glühwein
sounds good. :9 To us, glühwein is the same as warmed sangria wine. We usually drink warmed egg nog or cider, sometimes spiked with rum or bourbon.

Winter has stopped in early for us. It's not normally this cold in December. High temps are normally around 15-17C, lows around 5-10C. But not this week.

that Feuerzangenbowle. :9 Is it still served in the traditional way as in the above link?

I have heard of warmed egg nog, also known as boiled custard, but I prefer my egg nog well-chilled.

48. Miss HC Thanks for posting your pretty photos!
At the candy stand I see some licorice- is the colored eel-looking candy fruit flavored, but made with flour and sugar like licorice?(or maybe you don't know, since you haven't tried it) They sell that at the market here but it's smaller, and twisted like black or red licorice.

What is Glühwein served in? Here, mulled wine would be served in styrofoam cups (not recyclable) or maybe paper cups for hot drinks, as some coffee places use. I'm curious about how other countries deal with cutting back on throw-away stuff.

Honestly, I have no idea whatsoever those eel-looking candy tastes like. I can imagine it has different tastes, depending on the color. I am sure though that some of those are licorice.

The Glühwein is served in normal porzellan cups. You pay a deposit (here of € 2,50 for each cup). And when you give back the cups you get back the money.
