1. The guys on Top Gear really like them.
But then they don't get a lot of snow or extreme heat in the UK, so I don't know if that changes anything.

2. MINE!!!!!!!
I've been waiting for these to arrive! As far as I'm concerned, if Jeremy (Top Gear), who lives to drive supercars, actually gave it a positive review and had FUN driving it, that's all the endorsement I need.

Plus, if anyone was paying attention to TG, they said that the electrical problems that plagued the old Fiats, inspiring the tired old "Fix it again, Tony" nonsense, are no longer an issue, as the electrics are made somewhere else. So there. :P

I am counting the minutes till the Fiat dealership opens up here (about 20 minutes away from me)! I will stand in line to get one! 'Course, I want an Abarth--that's supposed to take another year or so for some reason. x(

3. So, how many minutes?
Let's say from the time of my post, so we have a fixed starting point.

I'm just curious if you're *really* counting the minutes 'til the dealership opens. :P

:hi:

4. Just adding them all up from the time of your post to that date is "counting them."
So there! :P

I'd love to have one as well, but I'll wait until my Civic falls apart, or I move to New Zealand and have to relearn driving on something like a Holden ;)

8. You might like to check out the unofficial Fiat 500 USA blog
here. I've been looking at it periodically and it has a TON of good info on the upcoming USA 500. It's one of the cars I've been considering buying lately--but that changes at least every other week. :P

Love it in red:

9. Some of the smaller Fiats have really been fun to drive...
used to own a Fiat 600 twin-cam Abarth. Used it for high speed slaloms and such.

10. It's no Seat 600

But I'd take it out for a test drive. That is, if there's a Fiat dealership within 3000 miles....

11. When I was stationed in Italy 71-73 we called them snails with headlights
Or sardine cans on wheels. If you ever got stuck on a one lane road behind one with 6 people in it and barely making 60kph, you wanted to flatten them.

12. It is cute, but had a 1980 Fiat Spider, and will never ever (ever)
buy another Fiat. The only car I ever traded in after 1-1/2 years it was so bad. This was before lemon laws, and it was in the shop more often than I got to drive it. Surely they have worked on these making-a-really-shitty-car issues, but I am not inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt.

16. THIS is the one you WANT if it comes here

The 500 Abarth will be powered by a Fire 1.4 16v Turbo petrol engine that delivers a maximum of 135 bhp (99 kW) at 5,000 rpm and peak torque of 206 Nm at 3.000 rpm in ‘Sport’ mode (in ‘Normal’ mode torque is reduced to 180 Nm at 2,500 rpm).

19. It's even better than that
if what's posted on this page at the unofficial USA Fiat 500 blog is true--they're claiming the US Abarth will get a 170 HP version of Fiat's MultiAir engine. Too bad the Abarth isn't going to get to the States until late 2011 at the earliest, though. :(

22. I had one of the old ones, bought it used in 1965. Blew out the head gasket the
first day I owned it, and it never ran right despite having it repaired several times...FWIW, I have owned 2 other FIATS since, a 124 Spider and a 124 Sport Coupe, and they were great driving cars and very fast...but they are delicate in comparison to most US built cars and require carefull maintainance and won't take nuch abuse - they ain't Chevies. Having said that, they would be more reliable than my former VW Passat - they would have to be!

Fix It Again, Tony - Fer Sher, man! But they are fun to drive.
