Bus driver forced to quit after 'brutal murder of snowman'
A BUS driver has been forced to resign after veering into the wrong lane to flatten a snowman.
The public transit bus can be seen in a YouTube video deliberately crossing on to the wrong side of the road to demolish the sculpture built on a quiet residential road by students.

The incident was filmed on the on the University of Illinois campus in Urbana.

The video starts with a car travelling on the correct side of the road, having to slow down and precariously make its way around the obstacle.

Then from the other direction appears the bus, driving on the wrong side of the road, before hitting the snowman full on.

The students can be heard shrieking with laughter.

Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District spokeswoman Jan Kijowski said the driver has resigned after the incident was posted on the internet.

Kijowski said the district had laid down the law to all the drivers.

"Whenever an incident occurs, we try to use it as a teaching opportunity to remind the operators what are the safe and good choices that can be made," Kijowski said.

The video, called 'Insane Bus Driver Brutally Murders Snowman', has received over 25,000 hits since being posted on December 4.

Minutes before the bus approaches a car can be seen slowing down and driving round the snowman obstacle.

The creators of the video are then heard screaming 'No!' in the background as the bus deliberately drives into the four foot high snowman.

But the video has sparked a social media debate over who was really at fault – the bus driver or whoever put that snowman there.

1. what about the maniacs that built the snowman in the middle of an icy road?
that was just an accident waiting to happen. The bus driver may have saved later property damage or bodily injury.

3. The bus driver deliberately veered into the wrong lane so he could hit something with his bus?
And people aren't sure who's at fault?

5. The numbskulls who built the snowman in the middle of the road are at fault.
Absolutely. There's no doubt in my mind. I think the bus driver's a hero, but if he violated some established company policy for this sort of thing, then I guess he'll pay the price.

4. Forcing him to quit is excessive, IMO
He would have had to leave his lane to avoid the obstacle if he was coming the other way; in this circumstance he left it to clear away an obstacle - public service! Also, funny as hell, and in my ideal world style points make up for minor malfeasances...

If anything, I'd say the snowman builders should be tracked down and cited, but that would be a little stick-up-butt as well.
