Our plant manager got canned
At least that's what I am assuming. He was here in the morning and seemed to be is normal self. By ten o'clock, there was a posted memo saying that he had left the company to pursue other opportunities. Even though he was a conservative Frepper type and an incompetent moron, I feel bad for him. I really do. I didn't see it coming at all and I doubt that he did. It just goes to show that you can't take anything for granted and I should not think that I have all of National and International politics figured out because I don't even fully understand them at my own company. I'll have to wait to see whether or not this is a positive thing. I am still in shock.

1. It is sad.
You're right, even when it is someone you have fundamental disagreements with, it's hard not to recognize how it feels to be layed off.

2. He even had built a house here
He moved from out of state to take this job a year and a half ago. They sold their old Victorian house, which they loved and built an imitation Victorian house. He has two kids in college and this is not exactly an area with a lot of high paying jobs. I suppose that it is a risk people take being employed in high profile jobs. They can be fired a lot easier than regular workers.

3. That is so sad

Jobs can vanish in a minute. I've heard even worse stories where security will just come into an office and start packing belongings away. Also I've heard stories where an employee will get terminated and then security will walk that person out the door. And then, in some cases, after that humiliating experience, the fired employee must come back to get his belongings in a box.

Yeah it is tough. But if he was not doing his job, was incompetent, and it was just not working out for both company and employee, then there was little else that could be done. Sometimes employee and employer just aren't a good fit. It's not always personal.

5. That exact thing happened to my next door neighbor on Monday
The whole scenario- belongings in a box, security escort, etc...He had been there for 6 years (and many of his fellow terminees had 15 or 20 years in)

7. Ugh
That is so humilating. Then again, with companies that deal with senstitive info (like national security), that probably is what they need to do protect secrets. But still it really sucks.

4. I've seen worse
At my plant four years ago, they called the plant manager to the corporate offices( in town), and when he returned the guard wouldn't let him back in the front gate. They cleared out the office and mailed his crap to him. He was in the company car so he had to call his wife to pick him up. Total humiliation,he deserved it. Scumbag. This is a huge multi-national corporation with over 50,000 employees. I don't know what prompted the firing, but a man that would laugh at someone that has passed out from the heat is a Mutha-f#cker. It is too bad we all didn't get a chance to say "good-bye" to him.
