DU Good Vibes© Request: Meeting with first potential client of 2011 this Thursday
One of my clients is negotiating the sale of her practice and recommended me to the woman who might be buying it.

She wants a site for her own practice now, and will want to roll the site I built previously into that one if the sale goes through.

November and December were lean, horrible months. If this goes through...at the standard price I charge for this level of Website...I'll not only have the funds I need to pay my way through January and February but also a little breathing room this month to solicit more business in a much more relaxed manner.

The time to celebrate is when you are at the bank with a deposit slip, so I've learned to not stray too far beyond "cautiously optimistic" intil contracts are signed, but so far, this lady has seen my work and is impressed, and after two phone conversations, we seem to have a pretty good rapport so far. My client also gave a great testimonial.

Thanks for your thoughts, prayers, vibes, etc...the meeting is on Thursday at 1 PM.

3. Thanks...yes, "cautious" optimism
One of the good aspects of this is that they want a professional Website to attract more clients, and my current client told them "After he built the site for me, I started getting more clients, and they told me they called because they liked what they saw on the Website."

4. Thank you for the kind words...
...many of my clients have told me that they did business with me because of my passion and enthusiasm. Of course, once you get past that, you have to have the goods to back it up, but this part of the sales cycle really is built on "Convince me I will like you and trust you enough to do business with you." So...so far, so good.

8. Thanks CP...
...I am one of those people who gets the equivalent of "runner's high" when I am working. When I have active clients and I'm pulling together a project, I lose sense of time and pretty much anything else. Like the famous Woody Harrelson / Wesley Snipes riff from "White Men Can't Jump," when I am working, I am in the ZONE.

I had one project right before Christmas but could have used a few more. Now, hopefully, people are back to work...no matter how reluctantly...and ready to take their success seriously.

...I have a long-standing joke with one of my best friends that when I need to pray BIG prayers, I go to him for help, because he helps me put the words together just right. I emailed him tonight and said "I don't know what the next size up is from "BIG," but that's the size I need on Thursday."

I took a few jobs last year at well below market rate because sometimes a bird in the hand, etc etc etc...

...but I can't afford to do that with this one. I need to charge a fair price that's not only fair to my client but to me as well. "One sided fair" is not "fair."

On second thought that might not be the best strategy. I can rarely get my dead clients to cough up the coin.

...I'm pretty comfortable once I get to this point. But being the first good opportunity after the "dry" holiday season brings a bit of anxiety that wouldn't normally be there. I'll have an opportunity to psyche myself up on the drive to meet them with the aid of some good car tunes (21 miles away).
