the words to the fight song are archaic and stiff, except for that last line.

Go Ducks! I'm so excited.

Dear old Nebraska U
Where the girls are the fairest
The boys are the squarest
Of any old place that I knew

14. See last night's Sugar Bowl
Holy cow, what a stinkeroo! Both Arkansas and Ohio State should be thanking the good lord above that they didn't have to face Boise State or any other team that's mastered the defense of that new-fangled forward pass thingie. Terrelle Pryor would have had five or six of those fluttering throwaways cheerfully taken away by any competent cornerbacks or safeties. Luckily, he was playing against an SEC team that seemed bamboozled by the sight of an airborne football.

41. Oregon two years in a row?
Including last year when they won the Pac-10 championship. Also Boise State held Oregon's offensive production to their lowest yard total last season. Or what about Oklahoma w/ Adrian Peterson a few years ago?

I'd love to get more socks, too, as they were comfy.

30. The Cal-Oregon game has gotten insufficient notice
I was half-watching the fourth quarter, and thought to myself, "Boy, Oregon sure milked the clock on that last drive. What'd they eat up, five minutes?" I checked the ESPN account the next day: Oregon held the ball for the last 9:26 of the game! Damn! I mean, there's milking the clock, letting the air out of the ball, and putting the ball in the deep freeze. Running off the last nine minutes is pouring liquid nitrogen on that sucker.

24. WIN THE DAY
Chip Kelly's motto

Win The Day

I gotta say that the local newspapers have done a fabulous job of keeping the fans stoked, and feeding in-depth coverage every day for weeks now. Full-page posters in the newspaper (two are taped to my wall), commentaries, historical perspective, stats, interviews....good job by The Oregonian and Portland Tribune.

I'm ready. Cleared the schedule for today. Got a crockpot of chili for supper.

WIN THE DAY!

25. I thought this day would never come.
I've had on 95.5 FM on for the last week and they have talked nothing but Ducks the entire time -- except for the occasional interruption of a Jail Gansta game, and that Seahawk gem of course.

I'm nervous as hell, but I think Chip Kelly has a plan and that the Ducks are grossly underestimated, by everybody, just like Kelly wants it.

GO DUCKS, WIN DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

27. If the Ducks are ready to play from the opening kick, it'll be a long night for Auburn
Last year, Oregon wasn't ready and didn't play up to their capability at the Rose Bowl. Ohio State served them their heads on a platter, thanks to a career game from Mr. Tattoo. If the Ducks come out from the opening kick ready for action, I think Auburn is in for a long night.

In my opinion, the best thing for the Oregon defense is to look to contain Newton, and force the ball out of his hands on pass plays. The Ducks can play pass defense, and if Newton isn't razor sharp with his throws, look for an interception or two. Newton is most dangerous when he can't find a receiver and does find a hole in the pass rush. Keep him contained in the pocket and the Ducks will be well on the way to victory. Easy to say, may not be easy to do.

When Newton does break contain, the Ducks have to flock (pardon the expression) to him, and get two or three guys on him for the tackle. Oregon has good fundamentals, but Newton is a strong guy and all the help any tackler can get will be welcome.

If Auburn catches Oregon flat, they can run up a good lead. Against this edition of Oregon, though, that may not be enough. Auburn will also have to avoid turnovers, and hold their own on special teams. If the Ducks get a couple of good returns, either for touchdowns or setting up the offense with a short field, Auburn will be in big trouble.

28. That's a really good breakdown.
Cliff Harris is a scary good return guy/defensive back. Hopefully we'll get some razzle dazzle from him. And Darron Thomas for being such as young guy doesn't seem to know or care that he's supposed to be nervous on this big stage. He's as cool as a cucumber. And Oregon has seemed to start slow, especially in the later games. They were only ahead of the Beavs by a couple of points at half, seemed to let people hang around. It's in the second half after their speed and stamina have worn the other team down that they start breaking big plays and blowing games open. Here's hoping they can hold with Auburn in the 1H and do their thing in the 2H.

Just some thoughts.
