Got the winter blues? Check out my photos from Costa Rica.
We took a two-week vacation to Costa Rica from Jan 12 to 26 to visit my daughter and family who are hanging out down there for a year to escape LA's hectic pace. With all the snow and everything going on down in the Lower 48, I thought you all might enjoy a virtual trip to the tropics.

2. It was fantastic.
The countryside is absolutely beautiful, and the balmy temperatures were much appreciated. We were surprised, though, that the prices for food and so on were pretty much comparable to the US, and such things as peanut butter were astronomical for some reason. However, if you've got an income, I would say "go for it." I've been having Costa Rica dreams ever since we got back to Alaska last Wednesday. I love it here, of course, but those warm beaches were very welcome in the middle of our cold winter.

7. I've been told that the prices have risen a lot in the past 5 years
Edited on Wed Feb-02-11 02:50 AM by Lucinda
but that land prices still aren't too bad yet.

5. We have been talking about it too.
We have friends in puntarenas and we've been talking about moving there for the past few years. Just now getting to the "seriously considering" it stage.

9. From the looks of things down there in the Lower 48,
you all can use some warmth. Glad I could oblige. :)

10. Beautiful!
Mr. MG and I honeymooned there. Loved the place. And their craaaazy socialized medicine saved my Murkin ass when I arrived there with a vicious sinus infection.

12. My daughter is having her second child there
and is very happy about the socialized medicine part. (She's due in early May.) Also, once a child is born to a foreign family living in Costa Rica, the whole family can become citizens of the country with minimal paperwork. Much different than America, for sure. Another thing I like about Costa Rica is that they have no military.
