May 21, 2011: Judgment Day Rumors Spread Across The US

May 21, 2011 will mark the second coming of Christ, or at least that's what some Christian groups believe.

The date was calculated by Harold Camping, the leader of an independent Christian ministry called Family Radio Worldwide, which is based in Oakland, Calif. Camping's date is based on his interpretation of the bible.

Camping's group isn't the only one following his apocalyptic prediction though. A number of loosely affiliated websites and radio broadcasts have created a movement independent of churches that have organized to proclaim the day as the end of the world.

Billboards, bus stop benches, and travelling caravans of RVs from Bridgeport, Conn. to Little Rock, Ark. are being used to spread the word, according to the AP. Allison Warden (pictured) has been helping to organize the campaign not only through billboards and post cards, but through the web, using her site We Can Know.

The Billboard people are making big bucks off these folks - I've seen 2 new billboards up in my area. As a Christian I'm offended by these groups. If they actually read the gospels which quoted the things that Jesus said, he had this to say about the end times:

Matthew 24:36
36"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

So in a nutshell these people are saying a giant '#*& you' to Jesus and ignoring what he said about end time prophesies and probably using this 5/21/2011 as a way to grift money out of clueless people who buy into this crap.

1. They allow crap like that on billboards, but if the atheists do
anything politicians all over the place have conniptions to beat the band.

2. I saw a guy with that T-shirt on yesterday
not all that surprising, as this was in Fremont, CA, 20 miles south of Oakland where that nutjob is based.

The hell of it was, I needed to ask someone where the library was, as I had a meeting there. I figured he probably wouldn't know what a library was, and moved on.

Besides, the world can't possibly end the day before Mom's birthday!!

5. Well, it probably won't be clothes, then
you wouldn't have enough time to return it!

A bottle of Herradura would just about make the nut. I'm sure you could polish that off in a week. :P

3. But to answer your real question - they will do what end of worlders
always do - claim there was an error in the calculation or (more likely) blame someone else for calculating wrong.

6. Camping is a religious quack.

He has had these dates before. They come and go and somehow Camping comes up with a new interpretation to cover his pious ass. Why anyone still listens other than for entertainment is beyond me.

He has this call in bible study show where he purports to answer questions of listeners. But when he gets a really tough question he takes a long time looking up the verse - then reading it slowly. Then he proceeds to ask the listener to repeat the question. Sometimes he deliberately answers the wrong question. And the condescension is so thick it is amazing that anyone still calls him. Then there is his screwball idea that the "age of the church" is over and people shouldn't be getting together in churches anymore. Not sure how his radio "ministry" is significantly different from a church - but there it is.

8. I looked at that one site on Huff Post and was flabbergasted!
According to the site they say "We Can Know" even though Jesus specifically went into details that we will no know and that people who claim they do know are false prophets. But I guess they feel they can know because Noah knew. But then again God spoke directly to Noah, a person who came thousands of years before Jesus Christ.

So I say to these dingbats - which is it - are you Christians who will listen to Jesus or do you think you are somehow above Jesus and once again doing this "World is going to end shit"
