Just got a call from my friend that has breast cancer.
Surgery within the next 2 weeks, then 6 weeks recuperation time. Then in the next 6 months plastic surgery. Vibes from the lounge for my friend would be appreciated. I can only hope to have 1/2 the strength and courage that she has shown.

1. Vibes going to your friend, Swede
Do you know what stage her cancer is? Will she be having any radiation or chemo? I am all too familiar with what happens; very close friends of mine have gone through this. Just let your friend know you are there if she needs you -- both of my friends said the hardest part was being fussed over, when they just wanted to be treated normally.

6. I wish your friend good luck
My wife is having surgery next month for almost the same thing. A preemptive strike if you will. My wife has tested positive for breast cancer type 1 susceptibility protein also known as RING finger protein 53 or BRCA1. Because she was diagnosed with stage 2 ovarian cancer last year, she had to undergo chemo therapy first. We're told that she will have at least a year of medical treatments between breast removal and reconstruction.

8. Best wishes to you and your friend,Swede, and to you and your wife too, Bombero
Last Thursday was the anniversary (42 years ago) of the day my mother died of breast cancer. Not to be pollyanna-ish, but it's a different world now, with the strides that have been made, and many, many people beat cancer now . With prayers that your friend, and wife, respectively, are among those many people that one day will be able to say they once had cancer, but that was long ago.
