I decided to watch Dennis Miller's 'standup' last night...
It was from 2010. I'm guessing late 2010 because he discusses Republicans regaining control of the House.

Miller is not funny. I don't know why I watched it - but he just isn't funny.

He thinks putting together a string of semi-intelligent words and then ending the sentence, "is like..." with a mildly humorous punchline classifies as comedy.

But beyond his limited funniness - the guy is an asshole. He spent the entire show attacking and belittling Pres. Obama, Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, then ends it by backing up the tea-party and Republicans from their vicious attacks.

It was pitifully embarrassing and, as it is with most modern Republicans, totally selfish.

Ultimately, though, it just was not funny.

Miller is not a comedian. He's the worst kind of lecturer - one who thinks he's funny when he's not.

1. I would have known better. A local radio station airs his talk show.
He is a total asshole. And what you heard is repeated for three hours daily on his talk radio show. I was so disappointed the first time I heard this show---I remember him from SNL.

3. he used to be quite funny- we saw a show of his here once
and I saw him at my college before he went to SNL and became famous. His cynical libertarian politics and the march of time have ruined his wacky, clever humor.

9. He was hysterically funny
in the late 80's - 90's. His "Live from Washington" show was brilliant. Then, of course, he was making fun of the very people he sucks up to now. He had nothing but disdain for idiots back then. I don't know WTF happened to him.

8. Exactly. He is the Fox Noise Comedian. For the folks have Fox Noise on
24/7. That way they can say they don't always watch Fox Noise.

6. He is a soulless whore . . .
I hope he's lonely and miserable in the sick little world he's created. Having to hang around with those lying clowns in the GOP/tea party is its own punishment and will eventually drive him insane. He's not stupid enough to enjoy their company. Inside his tortured mind, he must know that he is not really funny and that his new friends will never "get" his best jokes.

7. He used to be EXTREMELY funny... when he was doing mildly liberal strongly libertarian rants...
.
.
.
...but he sold his soul for the RW gig and is unbelievably NOT funny now... and
not because of the material -- he's just spouting what makes the Freepers slap
their knee and go, "HAW-HAW-HAW!!!"

11. Humour is about punching through to a truth. The GOP and their followers are not into the truth
so they are not funny.

14. Comedy = Misrule
Edited on Fri Feb-04-11 11:44 AM by Orsino
When the comedian becomes too cozy with the rulers, the comedy dies a sad death.

15. He's a pompus ass who can't even reach "has been" status,
because he never really was... I hate it when republican mouth-pieces try to come off as having superior intellect. The moment they reveal themselves as republicans, they lose all credibility.

17. I liked his early funny stuff ...
I remember seeing an HBO special and he said "Did you ever wanna buy a Craftmatic adjustable bed to see if you could blow yourself?"

I also remember one week when he was doing Weekend Update, he said "Did you ever wonder what Nancy Reagan would look like wearing Frank Gorshin's Riddler costume from the old Batman TV series?" The following week, he said "Due the large number of requests, this is what Nancy Reagan would look like wearing Frank Gorshin's Riddler costume from the old Batman TV series" and on the screen behind him was the Riddler in an action pose with Nancy Reagan's head. Now THAT was funny!

18. He was funny but he jumped the shark. It happened, IMO, the day that junior
hopped onto the flight deck on "Mission Accomplished" day. Miller gushed about it, and just couldn't admit he was wrong about the man as things unfolded.

That's my take on it anyway. :)

20. Miller lost me in 2002. I had yet to learn of his conversion.
I was watching him on Leno, and this was about the time of some serious tensions in Kashmir between India and Pakistan. (IIRC, there was real concern at the time that a full scale war would break out between the two nations) And Miller just came out and said that India and Pakistan should go ahead and nuke each other. What. an. asshole.

21. From Dennis Miller's "Mr. Miller Goes to Washington:"
"Fundamentalist Christians really bother me. I get especially indignant when they tell me I'm going to hell if I haven't been 'born again.' Well, pardon me for getting it right the first time. And, how many times can you pull this shit anyway? Can you be born again, and again, and again, like some evangelical Gabor sister?"

Bet that's not part of his routine anymore.
