NFL Adds THIRD Instant Replay Challenge
So the Monday Night games should be ending on WEDNESDAY morning now. :eyes:

PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP)--Instant replay as an officiating aid will be around for another five seasons.

NFL owners voted 29-3 Tuesday in favor of retaining the system, with one amendment: If a team is successful on its first two challenges, it will get a third.

Only once last season did a team have two successful challenges: the Carolina Panthers.

Cincinnati, Kansas City and Indianapolis voted against the extension.

1. What's the point?

It only happened once all year? Whatever.

Why not work to make the thing a little more efficient instead of adding something that will have little effect, and, if any, will only serve to add to the ridiculous length of the longest, most tedious games in major league sports.

Sheesh. If it weren't for the fantastic marketing, the NFL would be in dire straights, with decisions such as these.

7. I'd go with the NBA for most tedious
I can't really watch an NBA game for more than 5 minutes at a time.

9. Yeah, the constant action and lack of play stoppage is really distracting.

8. Wrong.

Baseball games are far shorter, with far more action than the NFL could ever hope to provide in its current form. Further, MLB takes steps to ensure that their games don't become extended beyond reason, while the NFL does exactly the opposite.

2. I like it
You should get a third replay if your first two challenges were successfull, it should also affect coaches decision making ability when there is a controversial call on the field. The coach would be more wiser in his decision to challenge knowing that if he gets it wrong he won't get a third challenge if it comes down to that. I don't see how it will make the game that much longer, I am sure most games won't have a situation where the coach needs to use a third challenge. I am surprised Baltimore didn't vote against the extension.

3. I've got no problem with it.
Despite lengthening the games (does it really? Has anyone done a study to compare overall game length as affected by instant replay - and NOT by the addition of TV timeouts which the networks mandated so they could squeeze in more commercials?), I would much rather the officials (and coaches) have the option to try and make sure the right call was made. Is it perfect? No. But it's better than no replay - I've seen plenty of game-changing calls get reversed, and that is a good thing.

5. I actually agree with this.
If you were successful twice, you still had the penalty of being out of challenges. I kinda like this rule, and it will be so rare that it shouldn't make much of a difference in game length.

6. I think its a good idea
First, of all its rare that a coach wins a challenge, let alone two. And if the officials are that incompetent in one game, then the coach really does deserve a third challenge.

Besides, what slows down NFL games are the endless TV timeouts, not instant replay.
