6. I never heard him play, but I understand he is tops. So I will nominate
him, because I liked his books about motorcycling and bicycling. From Rush, Neal Peart.
I think my favorite would be ... Energizer Bunny. But my favorite battery is copper top, DuraCell.

17. Two awesome drummers. I remember hearing once that Buddy
had numerous heart attacks, (I think five) but he would not lay the sticks down. One hell of a performer. Gene too. They always looked like they were having the time of their life while playing.

10. I always go to Neil Peart... until I remember the guy in the link below.
.
.
.
And my friend from Pennsylvania, Charles Smith... who I'd seen do close
to a two-minute solo on JUST his little tiny splash cymbal and have the
crowd up on its feet and roaring from about the 30-second mark on.
.
.
.
I just made the mistake of watching it. WHENEVER I watch it, I just sit
there transfixed until it's over.

33. I thought I had read somewhere that he had spent some time in India
learning more about all those weird time-signatures he uses, and that was what also allowed him to change them quickly without losing the overall beat. It amazes me every time he does that, too!

I can't find anything in his wiki about that, so I have no idea where I read it, if I really did...

Here's more from the Master :D

Edited on Mon Feb-07-11 11:46 AM by guitar man
I'm pretty partial to Chuck since he's my number one on call "house" drummer at my recording studio and I've been working with him on a few recording projects lately. He isn't flashy and he doesn't play flamboyant drum solos, Brother Chuck just lays it down with that fatback blues and R&B backbeat that I wouldn't trade for all the flash in the world. Chuck's credits include:

-Drummer for "The Shindogs", the house band for the "Shindig" TV program that ran in '64 and '65

-Two albums with Taj Mahal including Taj's "Natch'l Blues" album with the original version of "She Caught The Katy"]

-Three albums with Freddie King including "Texas Cannonball"

-God knows how many recordings with Leon Russell at Shelter Records and otherwisw, Chuck was with Leon for quite a while

- He also played percussion on Joe Cocker's "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" alongside Keltner and Gordon on the drums...

And god only knows what else he appears on,he's probably forgotten some of it himself lol. As much as I gripe about Oklahoma sometimes, you just don't find the kind of cats around the local scene like we have around here in Tulsa. :D

Amazing guy. Plays in the jazz position, gets off double-bass pedal-like licks with one pedal, and more.

here's a sample, but you really need to experience it live. He just blew me away the one time I got to see them play.
