Never thought I'd say this but I'm with the Catholics on this one. Love the "free dog soul with conversion"!

5. Laughed just as hard the second reading
The person who does the Our Lady of Martyrs sign is an angel. The dogs I know are much more deserving of heaven than most people I know. Not to start controversy, but the Catholics are less dogmatic than the Presbyterians now? I blame the religious reich.

rarely see a Catholic School pushing creationism, at least from my experience. Traditionally, they value serious education very highly.

26. that's right, I went to Catholic elementary and high school
creationism was only talked about in religion class, but only as part of the book of Genesis, not as fact. At least in the schools that I went to, fundamentalism was frowned upon and we were taught to INTERPRET the bible and to understand the context in which the parables and whatnot were written, NOT take it literally.

Real education was not frowned upon or denigrated. It's really unfortunate that the RC church has come to be seen as evil, since there was so much good that they did as well. (for the record, all our priests and nuns were cool and the RC elementary school where I went, now has very strict guidelines about protecting students, in general.) My uncle was a progressive, populist missionary priest and was very oriented toward helping folks where he served and improving their economic and political standings.

33. sadly there is an evangelical wing of the RCC
and they get the publicity. Isn't there a guy name Donohue that purports to give the Catholic view on social questions who is very right wing?
A lot of the kids I went to school with (12 years catholic) became republicans. I never asked why but sure is disappointing.

We were told dogs didn't go to heaven in grade school, but we knew better.

something like that. Very fearful of any anti-Catholic publicity. Kind of bizarre. Never heard of anything like that when I was growing up as a very Catholic kid. And then there's the Santorum-ish branch, Opus Dei, or something. Some folks want things to go back to the pre-reform period of Pope-John the 23rd.

10. These are examples of those "Generate your own marquee sign" right?
;)

While it's a funny exchange, it's not likely real :P

The best real sign war has been on-going in Houston for more than a decade, between an Indian restaurant and a Pappas Cajun place :D

http://www.houstonpress.com/bestof/2001/award/best-sign-war-30641
A little friendly ribbing between competitors never hurt anybody. For more than seven years now, Khyber Grill's Mickey Kapoor has been using his marquee to taunt the neighboring Pappadeaux's. When the seafood restaurant wrote, "Hiring today 3 to 5," Kapoor replied, "My, You Do Start Them Young!" When Pappadeaux posted, "Happy Hour 4 to 6," Khyber responded, "DWI 8 to 12." When the establishment bragged, "Our Softshelled Crabs Will Reach Out and Grab You," Kapoor fired back, "Pervert!" People have been known to drive out of their way just to see what the restaurateur will come up with next, and so far the targets of Kapoor's barbs have taken them all in good humor. Keep it going.

16. What makes it even better is that Pappas Corporate
won't let the managers of that restaurant "fight back", so their signs always remain true to whatever the restaurant is advertising that day. And Khyber's takes every advantage of that }(

Oh, because their marquees are two-sided, that means twice the fun, coming and going

On your way to heaven, there is a thing that tries to get you to give up 'your dog'. In that episode the guy says why would heaven make me abandon my dog? He says no and keeps going, and finds the real heaven.

It is a deep story that if you think you have to hurt, or be unkind to get into heaven, or exclude some group, what you give up, is what you lost, that you did not have to give up, and that is not heaven. However if you gave something up, that does not mean it is gone, since even that episode is a trap, since there are things that I set aside to work on other things, or thought were not that important, that I have returned to at times. Why, because I don't accept the concept that I have to give up anything, although try to think on what is fair and just with compassion. And hopefully for people to get back what they should have, weather that be peace, or love, or whatever they need.

It is also part of no deals, why make a deal? Although the deals don't exist either, that is to make you think you are trapped, another trap. The deals are illusions to get you in despair. They have no power you don't give them.

There is also similar stories that talk about children abandoning parents, or parents giving up children. All kinds of stuff like that. Some are told they have to give up work, or play, or something like that. Most of that is just trying to push people in directions during life, or that is my observations of that.

And I am still due beer and travel money, and many experiences, and I did not give them up, and am just walking an extra mile down the road.
