The light has been blinking on and off all night long for eons. Early this morning a cherry picker truck pulled up and the light is now fixed. We didn't even call it in. Cool.

1. Fun trick. When you see a light like that, catch it when it is off and wave a flashlight beam at it
No shit - it will come on. The photons from the flashlight excite the gas in the bulb and it will come on (unless it is totally hosed). One Halloween, we had a shitload of bulbs like that in the neighborhood. I went out with the kids dressed as a wizard in a cloak with a staff. I had a small flashlight in my hand, inside the cloak. When I passed one of the lamps that was marginal, I would wave my hand at it and make incantation noises and "POOF" on it would come. The neighborhood kids were completely freaked out, but it is just simple science.
