also offered a $10/month cable plan. Was this guy trying to get me to get illegal cable?

I work for the local phone company in Maryland, and believe me, it's serious competition. VoIP voice quality used to be substandard but has improved.

What the prices are I don't know, but it's probably less than the local telco. Get them to give you some price points.
