Or, am I just getting old?

:-(

Oh, yeah, get off my lawn!

I especially miss the quality of jeans.

Shoot, I still have a blender that my grandmother used!

2. I hate it when my old t-shirts wear out...
because the "Made in China" clothing, made now, really doesn't hold up well.

26. I got a pair of "dark rinse" jeans from the Gap less than 4 months ago..
now they're totally faded, and getting a little threadbare. Damnit, I don't want to have to spend $150+ on a freaking pair of jeans to get the color to last more than 4 washes and the fabric to hold up!

Maybe I'll just quit wearing jeans. The prices are STUPID.

27. I bought a pair of Levi's from Kohl's...
and even after ten washings I couldn't get out the nasty chemical smell. Plus, two of the belt loops ripped. And, can I say... I hate the stretchy fabric that they think us women love. Uggh! Nice fit when pulled on, horrible fit two hours later!

I do try to find good, old jeans at the thrift shop, but they are far and few between.

3. I wish I could find an iron that lasted more than two years!
Even the expensive ones from the department store die a sudden death.

But, I do have a Hamilton Beach hand mixer that is 43 years old and still works! It was a wedding gift. :)

to use distilled water.

We've had our Black & Decker (Pro Finish) over 10 years... and it's still going strong. :hi:

8. I got some great mixing bowls, a whole set.
Made in the 50's, cool colors.

I like searching resale shops, you never know what it there.

Glass cookware, drinking glasses, great stuff like that.

Really cheap.

15. It is on Lovett and has some of the best items I have seen
in resale shops. Pricey when they first go on the shelves, but can come down to a really good price. It helps Catholic Charities, and a lot of the items come from River Oaks since it is in that area.

The primary color mixing bowls sell for large amounts of money on ebay.

30. My hand mixer gave out at about forty years.
I had to replace it a year ago. The replacement is very cheap, by comparison. I doubt that it will hold up like the old one.

7. I just bought a Maytag washer and dryer.
The 35+ year old Maytag washer and dryer I had finally quit.

My new ones are 6 or 7 years old.
My sister bought another brand name, new. (Forgot which one.)
It lasted less than 2 years before quitting.

10. I swear it is true. I have a refrigerator
late 40's or early 50's. Still runs, never needs service, just needs defrosted occasionally. I even unplugged it for a few months to see it I was using too much electricity----and I didn't notice even a blip on my bill.

I really wish Lancôme would bring back their original Hydrative moisturizer... or Prescriptives wasn't bought out by Estée Lauder. Or, Estée Lauder would bring back their time release moisturizer...

the list goes on and on...

Sorry, the mascara thread got me started. lol

edit: another stupid typo

but part of it was we also didn't "need" or have so much crap, we did fine without all the shit we just "have" to buy/consume now.

31. True. For a variety of reasons I have not had the opportunity to
buy much these last several years - not that I was a shopaholic or impulse buyer to begin with, but I had more discretionary funds 5 years or more ago - and I really don't like "stuff" anymore. I have been, due to circumstances, weaned off the stuff wagon. I just really do wish that what I do decide to buy - a pair of jeans, or kitchen equipment, whatever - lasted longer and was made well!

I don't even like to buy books anymore unless I need them for reference or have already read them and decided that I'd like to have a copy. That's why I love my local library! :)
