Anyone had this experience with an elderly cat? My cat is 12 years old,

and for the past year, whenever I go away and leave her for a long weekend (by herself, with lots of food and water) or a week (by herself but a friend fed and cared for her in the house), she gets diarrhea. She does use her box faithfully (thank goodness) but still it's messier than usual.

She is eating the same food she usually eats, so I guess it's stress. I leave the TV on for her. Other than boarding her, any suggestions?

1. Leaving the TV on Fox News is probably a bad idea.
:P

She is probably bored. We have three cats that keep themselves pretty well entertained when we are gone.

3. Try leaving it on the Animal Planet station
My cats get pissed if I don't!

4. Separation Anxiety can lead to intestinal troubles.
Your cat doesn't know if or when you are ever coming back.

To you, it's no big thing. To her, the last time she saw you leave might be the last time she ever sees you again.

They are like a small child in many ways, you are always her parent.

If there is persistent diarrhea, she needs to see the vet.
