Madison Police arrest undeterred's dog
So this morning I went to the dog park and my dog disappeared. (We are nowhere near the downtown protests.) Its not unusual for him to take off on his own for a few minutes and then come back but suddenly I realized it had been about 10 minutes and I had no idea where he was. I called his name and walked around the park for about 20 more minutes and... nothing.

I kept walking and looking everywhere. My biggest fear was that he had fallen through the ice somewhere and drowned. There is a lagoon on one side of the park and he likes to run on it when its frozen. Finally I picked up my cell phone and there was a message... it was from my dogs health insurance company. They were calling to let me know that the police had found my dog in the street. I got this sick feeling thinking he was dead and had been hit by a car. Then she gave me the police officers number and said he was waiting for my call.

So the police officer had my dog in the back seat and waited an hour for me to call and come get him. He was apparently following a lady who was walking her dog and had some good treats. I was not ticketed for my dog running loose... he could have called animal control but he tracked me down instead.

Madison police are great. :-)

4. Yes, he does.

And its better than mine. He's a wild thing, so I figured it was worth it. He normally has 6 tags and I just noticed yesterday that 2 of them were missing- must have just worn off... Those 2 had my number on them. But the health insurance tag had an 800 number on it so the officer called that one, and they called me. I like having that one on him, because I figure if he was found hurt, somebody might take him to a vet and they could talk to me right away and go ahead and treat him, knowing they'd get paid.

But using it just to find me was a good thing too.

Edit: Insurance is VPI, $costs me $34/month.

5. If you're not capable of keeping an eye on your dog then you probably shouldn't let him run loose
But that's just my not-so humble opinion.

Seriously, there's nothing that annoys me more at a dog park than people who don't know what their dogs are doing. It spoils it for everyone else.

12. amen to that
Dogs should not be allowed to run around loose for their own safety as well as the safety of others.

15. I agree and yet as someone who has wild dogs there are times when
accidents happen. I will not take our dogs to an off leash park because my recall with them is non-existent. I am a terrible owner when it comes to consistency and training.

So we walk them on a leash and have them on a tie - out for potty breaks (no fenced yard, and even if did our GSD is a jumper). However there have been times when the little mutts are able to pull the stake out of the ground, collars have broken, and I have slipped on ice and dropped a leash.

The ones we have here are fenced in. Sounds like that one isn't?

7. There are fences on two sides
a creek on one side, and a lagoon on the other. In the winter the creek and the lagoon are frozen over. But he's quite capable of jumping over the 4 ft fences at any of the dog parks and does so if theres something on the other side he is interested in. He can also swim across the lagoon and back.

Usually he comes back when he is done checking out whatever he's interested in, but this time he was being held...

It was really a funny sight to see him sitting in the back of a squad car like that!

or slipped him a doggy bone with a file in it. ;)

14. oh man that could be my one of my dogs
I have a german shepherd who dreams of being a police dog - he would get detained just to sit in the patrol car.

One of my other dogs (who is now in doggie heaven) considered it his job to greet everyone he saw... and if someone had good treats he would follow them too.

19. There are two natural boundaries - a lagoon and a creek
And they are frozen over in winter so they can be crossed. However, my dog is half malamute and he doesn't really get the 'boundary' concept... its a human thing. Once a deer came in the dog park and he chased her out- she went over the fence and he went right over the fence after her. He came back to the dog park gate when he couldn't catch her.

21. I love your screenname!
I misread your thread title several times before I clicked on it. I was reading, "police arrest undeterred dog".

But you know, I'm glad I read it that way. I'm gonna start trying to be an "undeterred" dawg, myself.

22. I've been around for a while so I didn't think about that.
I picked a name I have to live up to, and sometimes its not easy! As for my dog, he isn't deterred by much. We just came home from the dog park and I have to say that he stayed pretty close to me today. Maybe he was "scared straight" by an hour in the back of a patrol car!
