Total bummer....
Spent 3 months and lots of money setting up a tattoo shop.....got state permits 2 days ago and today the town walks in and tells us to shut the doors. They do not want a tattoo shop here. Even though there have been shops here in the past. So I get no refund on my permits etc. Totally at a loss as what to do, we meet all zoning ordinances, nothing in the town by-laws barring a tattoo shop, we meet all the environmental health requirements, we meet the fire code requirements.....but cannot open for business because someone in power thinks it is an unsavory business. :(

1. Can they actually do that???
That doesn't sound right at all.

Isn't that what getting the business licenses was all about? Getting permission to do business?

2. It is not right.
Small Southern Baptist town, still run by a few wealthy families. Am currently trying to contact the mayor and my attorney. I am still shell-shocked at the moment.

3. You have a choice.
Lawyer up, or bend over and grab your ankles.

4. fuck that
reopen and tell them to produce the laws that say you can't be open. Make them take you to court over it. If you can't afford a lawyer, check out if your state has a free legal assistance program. For example, in Maine, we have Pinetree Legal. Usually a lawyer will at least give you a free consultation

6. Thanks....
have an attorney, am waiting for what he says. Opening until they actually lock the doors on us is something I had not considered.

10. Oh hell yeah!
I am a biker myself and the local biker community is ready to storm the town board meeting monday nite with us. Also have had several established business owners call and offer to support us. The fight is on! :D

16. The "scary" biker types probably wouldn't help. Established businesses would.
Not that bikers scare me, but that would be playing into their stereotype.

The powers that be probably don't realize that body art is accepted as being as normal as pierced ears in today's culture. You need some known, respected people to show up and show their "tats" at the meeting and voice their support for you.
