23. Has anyone who responded to this thread
done any reading about the history of witch burning? I know it's a joke in modern times but about one-fourth of women in old Europe were exterminated. The church targetted the old, wise ones or in other words those who carried the old faith. It was the beginning of fascination with young virgins because the powerful men could train them away from the old religions.


Do some research before you attack the witches and laugh about the burning. It was a genocide and destruction of a religion.

And no, I'm not wiccan. I just do not support genocide and I can't laugh about it.

29. Yes, but we can then move to what was included in the
Bible that we know and what was left out. I'm quickly going to leave my expertise but from what I read the witch burning occured to solidify one version of Christianity. When you look at the early gospels, they were not so anti-woman and old knowledge as what we learn today.

by the catholic church over a 300 year period. That's more than 45 women every day, for 300 years! Most of these women were accused of witchcraft for nothing more sinister than being midwives, and using herbs to treat the pain.

Yes, I know the book is fiction, but it is based on much historical fact, and i have a suspicion that the statistic is accurate.

28. I forget the number I learned
but it is mostly speculative now. I learned one-fourth of all women were killed. No way to validate that but many millions were killed.
