I decided a few years ago that I would no longer use curse words in my posts at DU. I felt like I don't need to cuss in order to make a point on a message board. Obviously the lounge is a bit different, but I don't cuss in my posts in the lounge either.
I try to reserve those typical culturally 'shocking' words for things I think require a strong reaction. Either I'm too liberal with those strong reactions - or perhaps the subject matter at DU generally requires those reactions.
3. They're good, VERY expressive words when used (relatively) sparingly.
. . . I also think there are VERY inappropriate formats for their use (in the Army, where they were freely used... virtually ALL of us had a real dread that we were going to go home and ask Grandma to "Pass the fucking butter." Truth). . . . Younger users seem to just intersperse them without any real function other than what SEEMS like some sort of desire for street cred. I hate being subjected to an endless stream of it on the bus -- not supposed to happen but few drivers enforce that. Some quite literally use "fuck" or "shit" in every sentence (seriously... EVERY sentence) often combining them or using them multiple times in the same sentence. . . . I don't find that offensive as much as really fucking annoying (as with someone who says "like" 20x/paragraph or "y'know what I'm sayin'?" at the end of every sentence). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Like... y'know what I'm fuckin' sayin'? . . .
4. I try not to swear becuase it offends some people.
And that is not necessary.
However with what has been happening in some areas by many people, thinking about not swearing is almost an insult to cognitive reasoning with the issues going on.
And I am still due beer and travel money and many experiences.
