I just came from an activist friend's memorial
53 years old. Freak Accident. She fell down the stairs in her home.
All the community is in a state of shock.
All the years I knew her - I didn't know her well - we didn't visit each other's house and such - but it was always a pleasure to run into her, and our common activities brought us together often.
Activities usually initiated by her.

But I never knew - did she have a living mother and father, children, brothers and sisters - never knew that when she was a girl she was a baton-twirler.
Didn't even know she had a son til she died.

Is that weird? Seems strange to me. I didn't really know her.
Sometimes I wonder if I know anyone, aside from my really close close friends.
Isn't that sad?

or is it just life, cuz we're all so busy?

1. So sorry for your loss
stairs can be so dangerous. I knew a woman once who died from a fall on stairs too.

2. thank you, she was an "activist" in the truest sense of the word.
For example, if I went to a conference (in this case Bioneers) and I saw someone who was great, I would tell people about them, maybe quote them, link to their website.

Leigh would INVITE the person to her home, and invite 20 of us to interact with the person and with each other.

That is really what it's about I think.
Going out on a limb, not being afraid of being rejected. (me - I'd be thinking what if nobody comes, bla bla )
Leigh just does it.
She started or was the driving force in so many projects in our community.
I feel such a hole in the community ....

Be careful everyone. Take time to hug your loved one.

3. I am sorry for her family and your community's loss.
As you say I think we often get too busy or caught up in our own life to get to know those outside our tight little circle.

also about the fragility of life.
