companies get charged a % of salary paid as unemployment insurance.The more people you have filing the higher the % gets.

I once worked for a company that went out of business over a weekend without telling any of the workers...I filed for unemployment, and was told that they NEVER made any contributions to the fund, but that I would be paid the full amount I was due because it was not my fault and the business owners were in big legal trouble for evading taxes.

Look at the deductions on your pay stub and you will find something like UC-that's it. Really, you are getting some of your own money back, and the company figures this as a cost of doing business and it is not a drain on the taxpayers at all.

Some employers say they will contest your filing, but they are just being pricks, and most states won't allow them to stop your payments if you qualify...
