Poll question: What's your favorite apple?
I'm just naming these off the top of my head. Add yours if it's not on the list

1. Haralsons make the best pies, but Honeycrisps are great for just eating.
I have a Honeycrisp tree in my yard, along with a Honeygold. Last year I got a pretty good crop of apples even though the tree is still fairly small. The apples don't ripen until late in the season (usually October), unfortunately, but they are worth the wait.

2. Jonathan - love their spicy tartness
I also had an heirloom Black Amish apple at an apple fest last fall- it had been painstakingly regrown from old cuttings... it was so, so good. Delightful.

they are very expensive here , but worth it. If I am broke I buy Gala .

I love it when the Michigan apples are ready for harvest because my energetic daughter in law picks apples and we can them . I love apples fried in butter with cinnamon and brown sugar.

... or, at least, I think I remember that they are. I only had them once, about ten years ago.

My other, more frequent favorites are cortland, but they seem to vary quite a lot in quality.

It's hard to find real apples anymore. Most of the apples available at stores are bred to be shipped long distances.

I need to get more from farmers' markets, but there aren't many up and running in winter.

I find they have the right combo of crispness, sweetness and just a slight bit of tartness.

They're also nice to look at --- very red exterior, very white interior.

21. Red Delish, but with conditions.
First preference, right from the tree, but barring that, organic and pretty fresh. They get disgusting and mealy in the market, cuz no one can really tell how old they are; ergo people say they don't like them. But a real red delicious is firm, dark, and still a little green inside, then you bite into it and it's juicy and sweet. AAaaaaaah! Tastegasmic, especially with some white cheddar so sharp it cuts you, and a glass of full-bodied Cab.

That's been dinner more than once. Should I just MOVE to Paris or what?

29. Pin~ata apples
I bought a bag recently at Trader Joe's and was amazed at how good they were. They are small, bright yellow with red streaks. They are also called Pinova apples.

34. Pink Lady!
I got turned on to them a few years ago. Before that I was a Granny Smith fan because I love crisp and tart but now I'm devoted to the intoxicating sweet/tart/crispness of the Pink Lady. Their beautiful yellow/orange/pink color is a bonus.

43. Jonathans - but the tree in the front yard of my childhood home
bore a cross called Jonadel, that nothing can match nowadays - whether memory adds to the taste or not, I don't know.

Crisp, tart, and spicy is the best. Not a big fan of sweet apples, nor of too-tart apples.
