Call the North Carolina Department of Transportation RIGHT FUCKING NOW
Thanks to the budget crisis they're threatening to jack the rates up on Hatteras-Ocracoke Tunnel Passes. I have a Constitutional Right to visit Blackbeard's old stomping ground as cheaply as possible. :grr: :grr: :grr:

2. Okracoke: It's an Indian word meaning 'really cool small island to get away from everything'
Until those nimrods at NC DOT make it prohibitively expensive for anyone to get there.

7. How do you get to Kitty Hawk? It too is on an island
Well, a peninsula, but it's called Bodie Island.

23. Original Okra Coke was good, but they ruined it when they came out with New Okra Coke.
What a classic corporate PR blunder that was.

6. Ever sail a boat through the Diamond Shoals off Hatteras?
It's called the Graveyard of the Atlantic for a reason.

Who's gonna keep an eye on my tunnel the other 51 weeks a year?

If they did it would be too damn crowded

16. Ever try to ride a bike across the Bonner Bridge on the other end of Hatteras?
You're one strong gust of wind away from being fish food or road kill. I've actually seen people do it. I thought to myself: Those folks are fucking nuts.

a bicycle over a bridge named after Boehner. Safety reasons, of course.

18. The Bonner Bridge goes over Oregon Inlet
Which surprisingly enough is nowhere near Oregon. It's just north of New Inlet, which is no longer an inlet. And the inlets are really outlets, that is, they let water from the sounds flow into the ocean.

24. I didn't know about the tunnel either.
We always drove down from the north. I think there was a long bridge we crossed. Have they bulldozed those annoying sand dunes that blocked the sunsets?

25. There is no tunnel. That's the joke
For chrissakes, don't you remember my thread where I asked if a mechanic was ripping me off for charging $400 to replace a radiator on a 74 VW Beetle? Why do I even bother posting here if people forget my best bits.
