1. Root canals have germs in them which can spread to other parts of your body.
The holes are not sterilized. I had a couple of root canals removed.

More information.

5. he used
sodium hypoclorite to sterilize the area.

he said that was a standard practice, and worked best. fine by me. I didn't have an infection at all, just a cracked tooth all the way down to the root. ouch enough.
I appreciate that.

so afterwords I said, you use bleach? I guess most people don't know off hand what sodium hypochlorite is. He was surprised I knew. Anyway, he said it worked best. In the past dentistry has tried other things, but nothing killed germs enough. I certainly don't want an infection where I didn't have one.

Just glad it's over with. I already have my crown. So after this heals, I'll have the crown re put on with a permanent seal and I'l be done.

Hopefully my tooth will last a good while before we have to do anything else later. No taffy or gum for me, luckily I don't like to chew ice, either. Don't like taffy or gum that much anyway.

this was my first dental work. I've never even had a cavity. ick. already so over this. glad it's done.

3. Tell me about it!
As a result of lousy teeth and a car accident about 30 years ago, I've had 9 broken teeth pulled (front top and bottom), at least 10 root canal treatments, then post-and-core partials installed, removed, and re-installed 3 times now. My dentists always seem to buy new boats right after my visits. ;)

Next month, I'll be undergoing surgery to (finally) remove the posts from my gums and getting a simple set of dentures fitted.

To add to this, I have a lifelong aversion to going to see the dentist. Thanks a lot, Fate!

4. I had it done
The only time it hurt was when they put the needle in my gums.

6. I have a stubborn pain threshold...
and I had to have 3 shots and then 3 more "directional" (my term) of whatever stuff he was using.

I had had 3 shots and 2 more. He started, and I was ok, but about 30 seconds in I tapped him on the leg...
gave him a sign for this hurts still a little bit, and he gave me one more.
