I am now a "resident" of three states!
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 09:58 PM by DemoTex
I sold the Dallas house (2/16) and leased it back through April 30. I am in the NC mountain house most of the time now. Yesterday I bought a condominium in downtown Greenville, SC (55 miles from the mountain house). My wife had to have a town place from which to travel and run her extremely successful consulting firm (offices now in Chicago, Dallas, and Greenville, SC). By the end of the month we will be out of the Dallas house. She will keep the Dallas office because of her client base there.

She is from Greenville. We were even able to get the phone number that was her dad's for nearly 50 years.

In a couple of months, life gets a lot easier for the DemoTexs. But between now and then ... moving hell!

4. Still a Texas Democrat!
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 10:12 PM by DemoTex
However, I've probably voted my last Texas vote. We could have maintained Texas residency. We had professional advice to that end, with her continued business presence in Dallas. That would have meant no state income tax. Mrs/Dr DemoTex and I had a problem with that, though. We want to be a part of the Greenville community. It would be hypocritical to live there, engage in community life, and not pay taxes. Sounded like a Republican cop-out to me.

In North Carolina, we are way too far in the wilds to be a part of the Brevard community. We will be as much as we can, but I think we will call Greenville, SC, home. That's where we will vote and pay taxes. Hell, I've already pissed off a few people there with my politics. Might as well settle in for the fight. Eh?

7. I told the Doc to work a little harder ...
I told her that in my early retirement I needed a couple of more places (like my former boss, Ken Lay, still has). Maybe Carmel or La Jolla. She said, "*&#!___!I!" And in the next breath, "Get a job you sorry, lazy, retired SOB!"

See what I'm up against? Am I unreasonable?
