I hate that gayness is being shoved down my throat
Please stop making gay marraige such an issue, and trying to force everyone to agree with you. I wish that these people would stop trying to redefine what our constitution means because they want to institutionalize an idea that is absolutely not enshrined in our constitution - the idea that America follows an exclusively christian tradition.

1. "shoved down your throat"
I thought they banned explicit sex talk from the Lounge.

6. Is that explicit sex talk?
"shoved down my throat" is a common expression for the right wing when talking about gay marriage and is applicable to any idea which is imposed on others without their input.

This is a joke, right? Please reply, jabuchan, before you're banned. Let's discuss exactly what I am "shoving down your throat."

16. Hi.
I've been going to bed early and working a lot, so I'm not here as much as I used to be. But I do usually check the lounge at least once a day, even if I don't have time to post.

15. This isn't my opinion
But I think what he's trying to say is that he's tired of seeing the issue of gay marriage being covered the way it is. He sounds like he believes that this constant coverage is actually turning people off to gay marriage. Another thing he's trying to say, and I've noticed a little bit of this too, is that on this board if you say anything remotely critical of the homosexuals, you're branded as a bigot and a homphobe. And we shouldn't do that. "Big Tent" after all, right?

30. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy
I've never had a gay person "shove their agenda down my throat" but I'm constantly told by wingers how their Christian traditions should be the basis of my legal rights. Plus I get a kick out of how sexual these arguments sound, and I'm sort of absolved from being a crude cretin because people actually say things like that. Honestly though if any body did "throw their sexuality in my face" I'd be suing someone for assault or harassment. Hasn't happened yet though.

33. psst....
I have another post that says to ignore my previous one.

And another thing, criticizing homosexuals doesn't automatically make you a bigot. If I think the homosexuals are doing something wrong, I'll criticize em, same as I would for Christians, Black, Muslims, Republicans, Democrats, whoever.

35. Okay --
I'll agree. If you need to criticize "the" homosexuals (you could just say "gay people"), I would imagine there are valid reasons to do so.

But when Jerry Falwell spouts off about gay people being responsible for 9/11, do you criticize Christians? When Osama bin Laden records yet another message calling for jihad against the American infidel, do you criticize Muslims? etc . . . ?

43. well.......
Honestly, after September 11, I absolutely hated muslims and wouldn't have had any problem if they would have all been shot. BUT, I came around and realized that the actions of a few should not reflect many. As far as Christians go, I tend to be very embarassed by them. See, I am a Christian. When I hear Jerry Falwell run his mouth, I think "Dear sweet Jesus, no wonder Islam is growing faster than we are". I hate it that morons like him usually tend to be the ones who represent Christianity.

As far as gay people go, I've said before that I have no problem with them. I know you're gay and married and you seem to be an alright person from what I've seen. I wish nothing but happiness for you and your spouse.

Peace

edit: What I gather from this post is that jabuchan is using the right's argument (stop shoving gayness down my throat) to describe the right's own obsession with the issue, evidenced by his description of their wrongheaded approach. Do I win a prize?

I guessed jabuchan is trying to highlight the obsession of the right with discriminating gays. Maybe he can explain it better, but it seems he is using the epithet 'stop shoving gayness down my throat' ironically to describe the right's forcing their wrongheaded approach into every crevice of political discourse.

41. Sometimes I wonder if they use that sort of language on purpose
Too insinuate that gay rights activists are not content to simply advance their issues, to make it sound as if gay rights activism is a form of sexual harassment. It bothers me most because I've never been sexually harassed by a gay person, sure I've been approached before, but a simple "no" has sufficed every time. This line of argument seems to posit that the simple fact of their existence is an example of their sexual harassment of straights.

If they would just call the heck down and let us get married, then they could just relax. But nnnnnoooooo, we have to keep them away from marriage. Who is "these people" you mention? Gay folk? Well, we are just having the Constitution stand on our side, thank you very much. If this crap keeps up from the rotten right, we can all kiss our rights good-bye, because A$$croft could care less about the Constitution.

I just think that a good chunk of(not all) of the people against it are religiously biased. While they should be able to believe whatever they want, they're beliefs should not dictate what the law is.

Is he talking about gay people, or the conservatives who are pushing their bigoted rhetoric? Do gay people want to force Christian values into the Constitution? Er, no.

This poster is making fun of the right's shoving of their gay bigotry down his/her throat, not of gay people expressing their sexuality.

I don't see what's so hard about this? Probably the subject line created knee-jerk reactions.
