I'm watching "The Tingler" starring Vincent Price.
Who the hell do they think they're kidding with the premise of this film?

If this wasn't a cheap attempt to cash in on horny teenagers hoping a movie would make their date more open to "releasing tension" as the movie would say, then nothing is.

1. Heeeeey, watch it, fella. This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid.
It was on Dialing for Dollars by then, but I adored Vincent Price and the kitsch factor was wonderful, not to mention that it's the first (maybe only) horror movie to use an acid trip to scare the bejeezus out of you.

I remember an interview with Price wherein he commented on how much he enjoyed going to theaters when it first came out. I think you know, but the gimmick was that the seats were wired to deliver a small electric shock when he yelled "The Tingler is loose in the theater! Scream! Scream for your lives!"

He said it looked like Cape Canaveral.

What's not to love?

3. It is a classic William Castle movie - full of gimicks
He loved to have gimicks to hook people into his movies. Originally some of the seats in theatres running "The Tingler" were wired to give a mild shock at strategic points in the movie.

For a good documentary on William Castle, see "Spine Tingler! The William Castle Story" - it's been running on the Documentary Channel. For a fun send up of William Castle watch the movie "Matinee" with John Goodman playing a caricature of Castle.
