14. Another woman with a beautiful voice!
Thanks for that :hi:

Here are two women that I find the most compelling for just listening to their voices, without the need to know what is being sung:

Natacha Atlas - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi6CA_1TGns
Azam Ali (vocalist for Niyaz) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91pMQfuZf04

Ian Clancy has a nice recording of it on You Tube too.

It's a song about a man expressing his love for a woman, but many women vocalists sing it too. It's a much-loved Irish ballad.

Welsh is a very poetic/musical language to begin with so rapping is just the next step in the evolution.

Re: Desperado - HA! That's on my workout playlist and I can sing along - every word. I understand most of it however there are a few words here and there I don't understand. :)

And at the risk of appearing a complete dork, I also love Antonio Carmona: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH-k_Y5H9Wo Admittedly here, I have no idea what he's saying. (Not sure what the heck happens to the video halfway through.)

13. "So Wie Du" by Peter Maffay.
It's a love song by a German pop singer from the 1980's. My German teacher used to play it for us in class to teach us to learn popular, vernacular German, instead of just "HochDeutsch" - "High German" of the classroom that can be of relatively little value on the strasse. I enjoyed the song so much as a kid, that I downloaded it from iTunes when it became available online.

39. Boy am I gonna get flailed for this one...
:hide:

One of my deepest darkest secrets is how much I like J/K-pop girl groups with ultra-slick Yellow Magic Orchestra styled techno backing. I ADORE the stuff. So it would have been "Go The Distance" or "Sweetness" from this marvy 2006 CD (Korean girl group singing in Japanese):

http://www.scenicreflections.com/files/cute,korean_pop_group,SUGAR,3_Wallpaper_JxHy.jpg

The Japanese and Korean producers/A&R people do it the right way. They find cute young women who can actually sing - and all of the Sugar gals could sing, and harmonize, quite well - and then teach them some rudimentary dance moves. Here the powers that be in the music industry always tried to transform dancers (Spears, J. Lopez, ad nauseaum) into singers. That don't work so good.

43. Here ya go,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9KLKklHm7c - pretty, ballady sorta tune with a chorus that sticks like peanut butter to the roof of the mind. Something about the "la la-la" chorus at the end just flips me out - some sort of ultimate cutesiness I guess. Sung in Korean

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3bk1an00sA - "Heart & Soul" - my favorite Sugar tune, live, that is I would bet, lip-synched. Sung in Japanese

Can't vouch for sound as my work computer has no speaker.

58. Heard this in a taxicab in Barcelona in January
and loved it! I had the taxi driver write down her name and the name of the song, I've been a fan ever since. I have no idea what she's singing about, just know that I love love it! A good voice, great scenery and happy dogs on a beach - what's not to love?

76. Llorando -
cover of Roy Orbison's "Crying," a capella and in Spanish. I originally heard it in the movie Mulholland Falls, and I still think it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Rebekah del Rio is amazing.

I think it translates to "You're The King Of The Liars". (Mentiroso is liar in Spanish. The rest was an easy guess.)

Smooth and groovy. Check out the doo-be-doo guy in the background.
