About 24 hours from now, I will be hopefully recovering from knee surgery...
It's outpatient, and shouldn't be a problem.

Still, it's surgery, so I hope you will hold some good thoughts for me as I go through this procedure...

My left knee has been hurting me for some time, and a couple of weeks ago, my orthopedic MD and I decided it was time to be aggressive about it, and go in to fix the situation.

The MRI showed some bone fragments and a torn meniscus. My MD assures me this will be easy! Oh, I hope so...

So.......I'd sure appreciate some good vibes from all of you!

Thanks.

My dear IcyPeas!
I don't think I'll be using crutches. I think my MD would have said, and he didn't.

I'll have a simple dressing, and the following week, I'll start Physical Therapy.

Thanks for the vibes...I expect to heal up pretty fast!

8. Good luck, Peggy.
I've had a few surgeries. The worst part for me was coming out of the anesthesia, which makes me very nauseous, but even that cleared up pretty quickly. The surgeries themselves were nothing. One second you're awake, the next you're not, and when you wake up it's done. :)

9. Thanks, my dear forkboy!
I've had a few surgeries too, and thank goodness, nausea has never been a problem. Not so far, anyway!

And yeah, it is as you say...one second you're awake, and then everything goes BLACK. And when you wake up, it's done.

Thanks for the vibes, sweetie...

Strength and healing and analgesic vibes going your way.
.
Keep in mind what I am keeping in mind... that, although it
MAY be a MF*** at first, in the long run the improvement
will be worth it a thousandfold.
.
.
(MF*** = middle finger... uh-huh)
.
.
.
I hope I hope I hope it's not your right leg.
.
.

That way, you'll be able to CONTINUE favoring the Left. :)
.
.

Hope for the best, but plan for the worst and ask for the
strongest pain meds that you can.
.
.
.
In case you need a reminder, the words of wisdom passed
along to me (with my name subbing):
.
.
#1. Ask for the drugs.
.
@2. Ask for MORE drugs.
.
#3. What would MFM do?
.
.
.
.
.
.
Keep the above in mind and you'll be just fine.

The vibes have a strong "hoping for best-case scenario"
element to them.

KNEES

(by marzipanni, with apologies to: Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918))

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a knee.

A knee that moves with fluid grace
And lets me walk at quickened pace;

A knee that bends so I can kneel,
And lifts me up, no pain I'd feel;

A knee that in Summer may be bare,
And tan below the shorts I'll wear.

Once upon you my babies slept;
Now onto you their kids have crept.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only a doc can fix my knee.

Will you be having follow-up PT or anything like that? Don't know how extensive your situation is, but people I've known with knee or joint issues have always been helped by some kind of PT after any surgery.

Take care, let us know, hope it's not too painful, and

Edit: just read through the thread - I'd just jumped right in without reading through - I hardly ever do that but wanted to get my vibes out fast LOL. Glad you'll have the PT - heal soon!

45. good vibes here!
i've known many who had this done, all have been pleased...i don't know what it is about our knees but they have to be updated w. titanium or whatever it is if we live long enough and & we had an active life

don't worry, think of all you will be able to do after your recovery

really been impressed, some of the guys i've known to have this done were really big guys and even they had good results, although they limped about on a cane for a short while, all the women i've known to have it done are happy also

as the saying goes, god is a hell of an artist but he's a piss poor engineer

when he designed the knees he fell down on the job a little...

61. Sending good vibes - and advice
Be sure to do ALL your therapy! It can make a world of difference in how well the repairs the doctors do heal and last.

Oh and lots of cold packs - they help better than the pain meds. Frozen black-eyed peas are a cheap substitute for the expensive ones they send home with you and can be refrozen pretty much an infinite number of times.

Advice.

Take a BIG ASS sticky and tape it to the knee that is getting surgery and write on it with a sharpie...

"THIS KNEE PLEASE" (and if you are above the thigh, your headed in the wrong direction!)

You will be fine dear, but you won't be running any marathons this month.

GOOD LUCK!

67. My dear givemebackmycountry!
Not to worry! They KNOW which knee it is! And I will remind them before I get put under too!

Damn, NO marathons? LOL

I have never run a marathon, and I don't expect to ever run one!

Thanks for all the good thoughts and the advice, sweetie...

I had my left patella rebuilt in '78 and after I got the metal out it was not perfect but ok. The expertise has advanced so much you should be fine.

74. Before this we could have called you 'Peg-leg Peggy.' As they say, 'You'll be dancing in no time.'
I should get my knees fixed. I never could dance and that would be a nice skill for socializing. Sending all the best to you today!!!

81. Hope the Doc scopes your knee until its clean as a whistle.
No fun, but it's going to be so much better when he's finished.

Take it easy for a while, and get well soon!

It's gonna be fine, CP. I think they fix this kind of problem all the time...and why should you be in pain? You're too nice a person.
