I created a little reading/writing oasis for myself. (Dial-up warning)
We had an old bench that I painted bright yellow and to which I added some comfy, summery pillows.

My able assistant, The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger, has undertaken the full testing of the pillows and newly painted bench in order to relieve me of that possibly unsafe and potentially uncomfortable burden.

Ginger informs me that adequate testing of a sunlit bench and pillows is a lengthy process that could last all spring and summer.

1. Nice job Heidi!

That's a great yellow for a bench - and I like that print too. Kinda polynesian but without all the cliched tiki-head stuff.

:hi:  :pals:

Your assistant apparently takes his job very seriously - he deserves a raise.

2. I bought him an extra package of bloody deli roast beef this morning
during my weekly three hours in hell (aka: grocery shopping). He's a hard workin' little man, our Ginger, and needs his protein.

Mornin', sunshine! :pals:

P.S. I made several tactical errors in painting the bench, beginning with not priming it and quickly following up with yellow spray paint instead of paint in a can. Consequently, it has a certain unintended "aged" look. :spray:

3. My dear Heidi!
That just looks wonderful; no wonder Ginger has taken it over...

I'm sure that there's room for both of you!

The colors are wonderful too...

Great job!

7. Thank you, Peggy!
Ginger really doesn't mind sharing -- after he has established true ownership of an object or place.

When I call Ginger for his weekly treat of rare deli roast beef, I always yell, "Gingi! Roast beeeeeeeast!"

9. I'm not sure he would answer to the typical kitty call.
Unless it were accompanied by the aroma of fish, chicken or roast beast.

10. You got that right!
Although I'm not sure how I happened to take leave of my sense and buy corduroy pillows, given corduroy's reputation as a cat hair magnet. :yoiks:

14. Yeah, I can use a lint roller on the pillows.
But it breaks my heart to see him trying to hack up a hair ball. :(

11. If you want to find the most comfortable and warmest place in the house,
ask the cat.

12. Yep, that's how it is around here.
Or, we can't find Ginger, we look for the most comfy, sunlit place in the house or garden at that given moment. That usually works, but if it doesn't, I go boil a piece of chicken or Alaska perch, and HE finds me.

It probably looks nicer in the photo than in real life because I didn't prime it and then compounded that error by using spray paint.

When he was little, I'd occasionally read aloud to him (no, really!), but now he just sleeps while I read silently.

24. You're so sweet!
Thank you, gf!

The color balance is WAY off on the photo: 1) I was using a first-generation iPhone and Hipstamatic; 2) the yellow bench and lime green pillows took over the photo. I probably don't need to tell you that Ginger isn't yellowish green in real life.

If you look through the glass behind the bench, you can see the back of a certain cursive typewriter that was sent to me by an especially sweet DU friend. :)
