4. I always thought the idea of calling them "Beemers"
was idiotic. So, I call them "B-moos" (for the letters "B" "M" and "U-U")

6. Right here.
I've discovered that people who drive German cars tend to drive like assholes.

Audi drivers are the worst.

10. In Minnesota?
No way. A lifetime of observing horrible passive-aggressive Minnesota drivers leads me to conclude that there is no one to be more scared of than the drivers of massive SUVs, especially ones with Republican bumper stickers. They will cut off/drive over anyone, anywhere at any time.

For some reason I seem to get regularly cut off by people in Lexuses (Lexii?) whenever I'm on the freeway. Some asshat who swoops around another car or two and slashes into my lane about six feet in front of me. It's ALWAYS a Lexus. :grr:

11. There are two types of Lexus-Lutherus drivers:
1) The asshole, as you (and the rest of us) have experienced.

and

2) The overly-cautious slow driver.

In discussing this with my family and others, none have yet observed any driving that is in between these two extremes. I have come to the conclusion that the Lexus dealers require all buyers to sign an affidavit that states simply "I am an asshole." Then the keys are handed over :P

Even Top Gear hates Lexus! :D

13. I'm not saying that the SUV republican-stickered drivers aren't bad
I'm just saying that I've notice after a lifetime of observing Minnesota driving that Mercedes, Audi, and BMW drivers think they're on the Autobahn and are generally assholes.

8. fighting a losing battle
The BMW plant in South Carolina is now the largest (by employment) auto plant in the US, with over 7,000 workers producing 1,000 vehicles per day. 75% of them never touch American soil, but are exported throughout the world. I've never known anyone who had a BMW to say that they weren't very pleased with the vehicle.

9. A friend of mine from high school (and Salutatorian when he graduated)
bought a BMW in the late 1980s. He hated it, because it was always breaking down. I don't know how many times I went over to where he lived (with his mother and a roommate from his university days) and they were working on that car trying to fix something else!

Maybe they're better built these days, but as others have said, it's primarily the drivers and the snobbishness that goes along with owning one. I have yet to be behind one on a great curve or corner and we're not practically crawling through the turn (I own and drive a 2004 Honda Civic, not generally known for how great it "performs" as a vehicle.) They aren't buying these cars for their greater ability to perform on the roads. They are buying the badge, the prestige and the permission to say "I own a Beemer!" ;)

14. They're nice motorcycles (beemers, that is).
Beemers are BMW bikes and Bimmers are BMW cars. Beamers are yuppie f**ksticks who bought Bimmers, and helped push the company into the luxo-sport-sedan market, thus ruining the cars forever.

I have two ancient BMWs (late-80s models - a 3 and a 7 series) which are great fun, though my 40+ mpg Escort wagon gets driven most of the time.

15. Thanks for the spelling clarification,
though I will continue to call them Beemoos ;) Or "BMW" when it's something I respect, like the bikes, or the driver isn't being a total ass behind the wheel.

I just took the first spelling that showed up on a search, thanks to never having seen it in print, only spoken.

I agree that they make nice bikes, especially that they are quiet. I happened to be next to a nice Honda bike a few weeks ago, and liked how quiet it was, too. When I win the lottery (when I play it!) I'm going to steal the LOUD bike my neighbor/friend has and replace it, free of charge, with something quiet. I'm sure the rest of the neighbors around here will thank me, too
