Patience is dead.
Just a short rant here, and it's not about medical patients ;)

I like the U-Scan lanes at my 24-hour Kroger because I can usually self-serve faster than the regular lanes (and I don't have to wait on people using checks! :P) I know a lot of people hate them, but that's another argument best suited for GD.

This is more about how the people in line behind you seem to think that as soon as you're away from the scanner, it's their turn to begin. It doesn't seem to matter to them that the system still hasn't reset itself in order to serve another customer. No, they're in even more of a hurry than you are and they're going to go ahead and try to scan their case of beer while you're still picking up your receipt and cash-back. I had to tell the two women behind me doing just that to wait until I was done. They seemed apologetic, but I'd bet they were pissed at me for telling them to wait.

It's not just the U-Scan, either. I've had people almost shove me out of the way at the regular registers even before the cashier has handed over my receipt. It's not going to make their service any faster. Can't they just hold back a few seconds until the other person is done?

And if that's not enough of an example of this omnipresent impatience we all have to put up with, on the way home I watched someone hardly waiting for the car turning in front of them before they had to get out into the intersection, too (divided-road turn onto another street; dickweed waiting on the cross-street.) So, dickweed decides it's not good enough at a time of night when there's almost literally no other neighborhood traffic that he (or she) just can't stand the wait and pulls out while the other one is still in front of them, swerving to the right around their bumper in order to then make a left. I know there's nothing that can be done about that, short of the full automation of all vehicles. I just find it another example of the idiocy of impatience.

I'm going to go make frozen margaritas now and "relax"

4. Why not shorten that to simply "Long."
Less typing.

Does that have to do with that roommate problem thread?

10. You mean patiently?
That we shouldn't take life easy and should always be in such a rush? ;)

11. No.
Waiting patiently implies, to me, that there is some payoff coming that will reward your patient
wait.

What are you waiting patiently for?

Why do you have to wait for it?

What would/could you be doing if you weren't "waiting?"

I'm saying the whole thing is a charade. There is nothing to wait for. Now is all you have.

Stop waiting.

12. "What would/could you be doing if you weren't "waiting?""
A: Breathing. Thinking. Pumping blood. Waiting.

I'm still "waiting", no matter how you word it. You are in line and until it's your turn, you are waiting, plain and simple ;)

And if you're looking for some kind of "reward" for waiting, well, I can't answer that, because I do not see it that way. I'm not going to respond kindly if you can't wait for me, though, so there's that. Maybe that's your "reward" for being impatient :P

17. I'm on some existential trip, I guess. I just have no patience for standing in line drama.
Waiting, as the finite minutes of your life tick by, my God.

I'm making very little sense, huh?

18. Considering that I started the thread specifically as a rant
to let me blow off a little steam at the impatience of my fellow humans with my normally patient actions, you have been making next to no sense from your first post. I'm going make a guess that you don't ever have such things happen in your life and why my experiences seem to make little sense to you.

If you want the philosophical discussions from like-mind DU-ers, may I suggest the Religion/Theology forum?

19. Oh come on.
I'm sorry my comments were, at first glance, irrelevant. I'm really disheartened that you apparently would like to see me move to another forum.

I threw some thoughts out, inspired by your OP. Whatever. Responses, and you're gonna get 'em, aren't like some garden to weed, be they mine or others'.

20. I'm just not interested in the esoteric angle.
My OP is a rant. We do that kind of thing around here all the time. And usually the like-minded DU-er sees it and posts a similar experience. That's was I was expecting, as well as the facetious ones earlier. Debating about the concept of waiting/patience isn't going to happen, or not in any way you expect. I don't really care!

So, I'm just going to go back to watching the rest of Young Frankenstein and you can debate it with whomever else wants to engage.

21. Ok. I'm off as well.
I want to say I'm sorry for being aware of a bigger tent, but I'm not sorry.

I am done with this thread though. So you don't have to leave, I'm already gone.
