What do you wear to a "casual" date?
:hide:

Seriously, I have a date on Friday and this is my first one in a while that hasn't been with the intention of riding off into the sunset with said person. We're getting dinner and then, in her words, heading back to her place. ;)

Serious and non-serious answers welcome, although I'm kind of lost on this so one or two serious ones would be nice. :P

2. I knew someone would say this. :P
My issue is I want to look cute/hot without looking "trashy". That's what I meant. :P

4. It depends on where you're going to dinner.
What is usually considered proper attire there?

6. Depending on the weather
If it's a warm evening, I would go with a summer dress with a wrap maybe and flat sandals. Or a nice pair of jeans and a "fancy" top- careful on the cleavage. Something comfortable that you won't be fidgeting with all night.
Have fun!

9. I second this.
I'm a jeans kind of girl. I usually pair them with a cute top and dressier "done" hair and makeup and some kind of bangle or necklace. Flats are good unless you want some height; a wedge is more casual than a stiletto and much more comfortable too.

7. I like the good jeans and a casually wworn dress shirt approach.
Roll the sleeves, be well groomed, smell of nice soap, brush your teeth, and most of all be interested. A warm, interested, real presence is the best wear there is.

10. Jeans -- good jeans and a well-ironed cotton shirt. Loafers.
I like the other post that says scrubbed and clean-smelling. That's very classy.

Don't wear heels - you don't want your date to think you're a masochist

I wore mine on my last date, and I'll never forget the night. It was back in 1981....

No matter what you wear, I hope you have a great time. :)

18. I wore that shirt once
Edited on Wed Jun-01-11 03:25 PM by gratuitous
Not only did I score that night, my acne cleared up and I won $10 in the lottery. Changed my life, by golly. I knew someone who wore it, and she was picked to be on the Republican ticket for president/vice president! You betcha.

19. Your object is to cover all possible bases:
Left foot -- cowboy boot
Right foot -- striped knitted kneesock and clog

Groin -- pair of cutoff jeans, with an indecently short sky blue miniskirt over them
Chest -- hawaiian-style fluorescent green and hot pink bikini top, over which you wear a very conservative crisp white blouse, unbuttoned enough that the bikini top peers out

Neckline -- get a nice black velvet choker with a few diamonds (so you don't look cheap)

Left arm -- elbow-length tie-dyed glove with the fingers cut off, simple turquoise-silver ring on one finger
Right arm -- goth leather bracelet with spikes

Makeup -- you're aiming for part nice-girl natural and part Amazon cannibal -- so start with nice-girl natural: a good defoliating scrub and some moisturizer, then apply raspberry chapstick to your mouth -- and then do the Amazon cannibal addition: get a glossy deep red lipstick and put a rectangle of color across your face, left temple to right temple, from right above the eyebrows to midway down the nose, being sure to color the eyelids as well

Earrings -- a romantic touch -- long dangling silver curlicues

Hair -- I'll leave this up to you: just do something that matches the outfit

Hat -- modest pillbox with a veil

21. Well...
since your OP makes it seems like the casual date is a precursor to a casual hookup, I'd say wear clean sexy underwear and over that I'd wear whatever you look at yourself in the mirror right before you head out the door and think "I'd f**k me." That's not about being slutty, it's about self-confidence and knowing what your objective for the date is; those are sexy.

I agree about no heels but I'd not go with the jeans. (That's just me personally. I think a first date (even a casual one) is less informal than jeans would suggest...unless you're going hiking or to see a rock concert at the Phoenix. I just find myself thinking "meh".)
