What do you give someone who is having a HS graduation party....
....but dropped out sophomore year, and was failing all her classes?

I kid you not.

She and her mother moved out of state two years ago and neither lawfully home schooled nor enrolled her in high school in new location.

Now they are having a graduation party in the previous town for family and friends. Most people don't know that she wasn't actually being schooled.

For some reason, this galls me.

3. Oh, then that's easy - "I'm sorry, but I'm stuck on the can with the shits."
Or some variation of that.

4. a book?
It's hard to think of things even when there aren't circumstances like yours.

We have former friends sending us invites/announcements, neighbors we aren't all that close to, etc. Maybe a card is sufficient but sometimes you feel compelled to give a gift.

I'm no help! Sorry. :)

6. Excellent idea! And the card can say something like "This was a favorite of mine in
high school, but I'm afraid many schools don't teach it anymore..." :)

15. Did she get her GED?
If so, send or bring money, just as you would
for a regular graduate.

School is NOT for everyone.

2 of my brothers got GED's, and they
are both gainfully employed today.

16. if she didn't at least get her GED, it sounds like a scheme to get money

I agree with Passingfair and if she got her GED, then treat it like a normal graduation.

If she didn't and just sat at home the last two years, it sounds like it might be a scheme to get money. When I graduated HS I got enough money from relatives to cover books for class with some left over for spending money freshman year
