Someone close to me has cancer
and not the kind that's gonna be treatable.

I'm not asking for medical advice - the people involved ARE doctors, oncologists, even. I guess - how does one go about preparing for the inevitable, prepare the kids for it? I've really never been in this situation, although I've been a nurse and seen others through it. It's different when it's your own. I can't articulate it, but it's just -- different.

Been through a lot of stuff lately, and honestly, the Lounge has been a source of hope, humor, and inspiration. My heart is just breaking tonight.

1. my mum died of cancer the last day of April
I only found out she had cancer April 16. Offer to do all you can, and mean it but be especially prepared to LISTEN.

4. I hadn't even thought of that
Listening, I mean. There'll be a lot of emotions involved here, and it's something that I'll need to do.

Thank you, it's a reminder of the most basic part of healing. I'm so sorry about your mum, and hope your own healing is evolving.

2. I am so sorry

1st, I have leukemia, when first diagnosed it was 95% chance of living normal life span on new drugs, not so much now. 4 years later and out of remission again, doubling dose, Dr is hopeful. I seem to not stay in remission or have side effects that try to kill me faster than leukemia. But I am not done, so just ignor that mess, all I have to do is keep waking up one day at a time. I intend to live to be an old lady, damn it!

I was diagnosed 2 yrs after I lost my husband to lung cancer, 5 years after I lost my step son to cancer age 34. So, I know what you mean, it is different, everything is different.
But I have decided I have one choice, I choose not to suffer, I play, I joke, I laugh, I will NOT suffer.

I don't know what to tell you, I am not magically smarter about this stuff. I just know how to put one foot in front of the other and do the next thing next. But if you ever have question about anything, send me message, I will answer best I can, or I will just listen to you rant.

3. Thanks
Putting one foot in front of the other is about the best I can do right about now.

My heart goes out to you. Peace.

5. My mother died when i was in my early 20s.
I went off and thought about how to act, speak etc around her now that she had a death sentence.
And what i came up with was the golden rule - treat her like I would want to be treated.

6. Yes, I hear you
I'm seeing this person later today, and wondering how I'm going to stop from falling apart in front of her - which I really really need NOT to do.

I'll put your words to use, they make eminent sense and will be much more comforting to her.
