It's strange how things work out sometimes.
I parked next to one of my employers sprinkler systems this morning when I arrived at work. The space was close to the entrance and I figured a little water wouldn't hurt anything.

I hopped in my car after work and the sprinkler was running. There was a white film all over my black car. I had no idea what it was or what the hell they were running through that sprinkler. When I ran the windshield wipers the white film would not come off of the windshield. I ran the car through the car wash, but that stuff wasn't going anywhere.

I went to a car detailer and the woman there said she needed $150 to make it right. She didn't know what was on the car for sure, but she thought she could fix it with something called a clay bar. I got an estimate and went back to work to talk with the owner's son.

I was kinda pissed. I've been working in 90+ degree heat for the last week for 9 or 10 hours a day. I drive a truck for a scrap yard and the damned thing doesn't have a/c. I had this scenario running through my head that I was going to encounter a boss who was not sympathetic to the plight of the paint job on my 2010 Honda. I even had the thought go through my head that of he did not agree to fix my car I was going to start looking for work elsewhere- principle of the matter and all.

I talked to the boss and he took a look at my car. He said he thought it was hard water stains. He went to talk to somebody about it then came back and cut me a check for $150. Just that easy. He told me not to park next to the sprinkler system anymore. I said no problem. :)

I saw a guy who works for us driving a brand new truck today. It was the same style that I drive. They have 10 trucks like that- 8 that are actively driven and 2 old clunkers we use for back-ups. I figured that at least we'd be retiring one of the junkers. I asked my boss about it and he wouldn't tell me anything.

While I was in the process of talking to the owner's son about my car he said that they were giving that new truck to the senior driver who drives those style of trucks and that I could have his. His truck is only a few years old and guess what? It has a/c. The owner's son said that I was doing a really good job and to keep up the good work.

1. My dear Tobin!
Yeah, it is strange how things work out sometimes...

As I was reading your excellent story, I was thinking calcium deposits...Hard water does that. We had the same problem in, of all places, our dishwasher! We used vinegar to get rid of the gunk, and then we softened the hot water. Problem solved!

And congrats on your new truck, complete with a/c!

You're doing a great job!

6. You have had some employment adventures the last few years.
Sounds like you might have finally landed where you're appreciated. Hope it works out!

And as I understand it, claybarring is a lot of work. Feel free to tip if she does a good job.;-)
